South Africa is gearing up for an unforgettable four months of music, culture, and unforgettable live performances. From soulful jazz to hip hop and global pop superstars, festival season is officially upon us.
DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival (20–21 September)
The iconic DStv Delicious Festival returns this September, promising a blend of food, culture, and world-class performances. This year’s international headliners include Don Oliver and the legendary Lauryn Hill, alongside a strong local lineup featuring Mandisi Dyantyis, Lira, Zoë Modiga, and many more. Beyond the music, festival goers can look forward to the food village and lifestyle experiences that make Delicious one of the country’s most celebrated annual events.
Standard Bank Joy of Jazz ( 26 - 28 September)
September also brings Joy of Jazz, a festival that has become synonymous with excellence in live jazz. This year’s program features Grammy-winning bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding, piano virtuoso Thandi Ntuli, jazz master Andile Yenana, songstress Berita, and an array of international and local talents. Joy of Jazz continues to be a cornerstone of South Africa’s cultural calendar, uniting seasoned jazz lovers with new fans alike.
Rocking the Daisies Festival (3 - 5 October)
October heats up with Rocking the Daisies Festival, which is set to bring together a mix of international R&B and local talent. Fans can expect performances from Summer Walker and Jessie Reyez, with the stage also shining a spotlight on South Africa’s own stars: Filah lah lah (recipient of GLAMOUR’s GMG award), DJ Zinhle, and for the first time, the beloved jazz band Kujenga. Daisies is shaping up to be one of the freshest additions to the local live music scene.
Hey Neighbour Festival (December)
Closing the year with a bang, Hey Neighbour Festival is back on the calendar after a mid-year postponement. While some changes to the lineup may still be expected, the current bill is already jaw-dropping. Headlining is global superstar Doja Cat, who will perform in South Africa for the first time. The festival also boasts performances from Central Cee, Black Coffee, Kuli Chana, Muzi, and more. With its scale and international appeal, Hey Neighbour is expected to draw massive crowds and kick-start the festive season in style.
As the summer sun approaches and the festive season begins to build, South Africans are spoiled for choice. Whether it’s jazz, R&B, house, or hip hop, the next few months are proof that live music in Mzansi is bigger and better than ever.
