As Rands Cape Town prepares to mark its monumental 10th anniversary, the beloved entertainment landmark has taken a moment to reflect on the roots that made its journey possible — the local community and, in particular, its senior citizens.
In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, Rands hosted a special gathering for elders from across Khayelitsha, recognising their patience, support, and blessings over the past decade. The event was not only a celebration, but a symbolic nod to the community’s role in shaping Rands into what it is today.
“What would Rands be without the people who welcomed us, encouraged us, and allowed us to grow here?” a Rands spokesperson shared. “The senior citizens have been our silent supporters — they’ve watched us evolve, tolerated the noise, and given us their blessings to exist.”
The gathering formed part of a series of community-focused initiatives leading up to the Rands 10 Groove Commandments celebration, the official anniversary event. From music to shared memories, the day was filled with joy, storytelling, and reflection, reminding everyone that Rands is not just a venue — it’s part of Khayelitsha’s living history.
