Man Candy Monday

Meet Tim Morake, a top South African model who hails from Cape Town. Morake is best known for being the first black man to appear on the cover of one of South Africa’s leading women’s magazines. The 28-year-old has also graced the print and digital pages of GQ, been the face of the 2017 Castle Light campaign, and has appeared in multiple commercials and fashion editorials locally and internationally.

He was first discovered in his first year at university, when a good friend suggested that he enter a modeling competition, in hopes of meeting a female suitor. He won the competition and is still signed to Boss Model Management nines years later.

When it comes to the ladies, Tim, or Timmy as he is referred to by friends and family, looks for someone who is smart, has a sense of humor, a sense of style, and is easy going.

What would you say is your best attribute, and why?

I think it’s getting along with people – forming and creating diverse friendships and relationships; I’m a people person.

Who or what inspires you?

My mother inspires me, she’s my main motivator. Other than that I’d say Elon Musk. He’s forward-thinking, hard-working, loyal to his craft, creative, inventive…and he’s South African!

What’s your idea of the perfect date?

A casual sundowner picnic on the beach.

What’s your favourite drink?

I don’t have tolerance for caffeine, so if I want a hot drink I’ll opt for a chai latte; when it comes to cold drinks I like peach ice tea.

What is your dream vacation destination?

I’d like to visit Asia. It’s not spoken about as much as the Europes and Americas of this world. I think Asia is still an undiscovered destination. Japan would be my ideal destination. I visited Bali last year August and that was amazing – beautiful beaches and friendly people.

Do you have any regrets when it comes to past relationships?

I don’t think I have any regrets. If I enter a relationship I give it a hundred percent, and I’m fully in. I haven’t had many relationships, but I think that each relationship teaches you something different and prepares you for the next one. If it’s not meant to be and the relationship fizzles out, then it means that something bigger and better is on its way.

Who is your style icon?

My style icon is David Beckham. I like that he’s versatile; he’s able to mix formal and casual wear really well.
