Most brand documentaries show up after the moment’s already happened, reconstructed for the camera. Shelf-made was there before it did. lelive., one of South Africa’s most recognised homegrown skincare brands, has released Shelf-made — a documentary-style content series that follows three of South Africa’s most defining cultural figures.
The new docu-series captures Jamali, Karabo Poppy, and Darkie Fiction from their morning skincare rituals to the moment they step into the spotlight — celebrating the discipline, intention, and identity behind each of their creative journeys. The episodic series will launch on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, with companion content across lelive.’s social platforms.
About the series
Shelf-made is an event-first documentary concept built to give flowers to self-made creatives moving culture forward on their own terms — the ones who’ve built something from idea to shelf. Bathroom shelf. Living room shelf. Bookshelf. Whatever shelf holds the things that matter, earned through intention and discipline. Each episode follows a single creative through their day, ending in a curated community experience built entirely around their world. lelive. shows up as part of the ritual — skincare as a quiet, intentional act before, during and after something significant.
Episode one, live now: Jamali
Jamali, Artistry JHB: An intimate listening experience marking the group’s return to music after 13 years apart — not absence, evolution. Guests heard new material from the forthcoming EP first, including a live performance of two new tracks and a candid Q&A that brought fans, family and community into one room for a full-circle moment.
Coming next
Karabo Poppy, Beijing Opera JHB
An immersive creative dinner translating the illustrator and visual artist’s world into a live, shared experience. Guests took part in a heat-press activation, creating wearable art using Karabo’s signature visual language onto lelive.’s tote bags, paired with a dinner built around her artistic universe.
Darkie Fiction, Glory JHB
An intimate six-course lunch marking the artist collective’s first-ever merch drop, with every guest gifted a piece from the debut collection — a milestone for a duo that has consistently pushed the edge of South African music and culture.
"Self-made doesn’t mean you did it alone. It means you chose yourself, showed up for your art, and kept going. shelf-made is about giving that the recognition it deserves — and showing how deeply skincare, ritual, and readiness are woven into who we are before we step out and into our purpose." - lelive.
