She did it again, yup pun intended. Tyla has once again proven she is not here to play. At the 52nd annual American Music Awards, hosted by Queen Latifah at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Tyla walked away with not one, but two awards: Best Afrobeats Artist and Social Song of the Year for CHANEL, further cementing her place as one of Africa’s biggest global exports right now.

The wins arrive just days after the announcement of the BET Awards nominations, where Tyla scored a nod for Video of the Year for her fashion forward visual for CHANEL. She finds herself in heavyweight company alongside Doechii, SZA and Kendrick Lamar, Kehlani, Ella Mai, Mariah the Scientist and Teyana Taylor in one of the ceremony’s most competitive categories.
The latest wins add to an already stacked trophy shelf. Earlier this year, Tyla picked up her second Grammy Award, winning Best African Music Performance for Push 2 Start, making her the first artist to win the category twice. Before that came the historic Water era, which introduced her to the world and turned her into a global breakout star.
And she is far from slowing down. Tyla is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming album A*Pop, her highly anticipated second studio project expected later this year. The album signals a new era, one that leans deeper into her self-described “A-pop” sound while continuing to blur the lines between amapiano, pop and R&B.
