Slightly over a week ago singer and songwriter Simphiwe Dana released her new album Bamako. The 13-track album, which Simphiwe recorded at her home studio and finished off on the Malian capital Bamako is already a favorite of many music lovers worldwide.

"This album was a one woman team. I did the producing, the vocals, all of it. My record label then found the budget for me to head to Mali to work with the legendary Salif Keita, that's where I finished the album. It was a dream come true and I didn't think the label would have the budget for it. They found the budget and I got to record with Salif Keita," she told GLAMOUR Online Editor Molife Kumona in a GLAMOUR LIVE interview this week.

"Working with Salif was mindblowing. He is very childlike just like me. Two very child like people who do very serious music," she added.

Simphiwe says during the time she wrote the album she was going through a heartbreak. "I was going through a lot of heartache at the time of writing the album. I am blessed that when I go through stuff I can go into the studio and write. That's what I did with this album."

Watch the full interview below as Simphiwe talks more music, love, her favorite dishes and a couple of other things you may not know about her.
