If there was ever a way for Onezwa Mbola to announce her pregnancy, we should have known it would involved something grown, raised or foraged

The food storyteller and content creator has revealed that she is expecting, and naturally, she did it in true Onezwa fashion, taking her followers along as she showed off the things growing around her, before dropping the sweetest plot twist: she’s growing a baby too. And yes, bun in the oven was definitely intended.

The announcement comes just months after Onezwa stepped into another major chapter, as an author with her her cookbook, A Food Love Story. The book, which was published in May, is much more than a collection of recipes. In her interview with GLAMOUR, Onezwa opened up about how writing it became a deeply personal journey through food, family, grief and the memory of her late mother.

At the heart of the book is the same philosophy that has made Onezwa's content so special: food is about connection, heritage and the stories we pass down. She has built a following by sharing meals made with ingredients she grows, raises and forages herself, while documenting her life in the Eastern Cape.

And now, there's another story being added to the family.

The pregnancy reveal feels especially fitting considering how much Onezwa has spoken about motherhood and passing things on to her child. A Food Love Story itself began partly as a way of preserving recipes and memories for her son, ensuring he would know more about the grandmother he never got to meet. From growing food to growing a family, this really does feel like a beautiful new chapter for Onezwa.
