Kay Yarms announces pregnancy with stunning maternity photos

Kay Yarms has officially entered her motherhood era, and if there was ever an announcement that had South African social media stopping to take a second look, this was it.

The beauty influencer and YouTuber surprised her followers with the sweetest pregnancy reveal, sharing a series of photographs from what appears to be an intimate maternity shoot. In the images, Kay is dressed in white and proudly cradles her growing bump, while other details from the shoot include her ultrasound scan and a tiny teddy bear.

In an Instagram carousel she shared the news with a beautiful caption:

“And if you would’ve ever asked me what I truly wanted to be, this would’ve always been the answer.”

For someone who has spent years sharing snippets of her life online, from makeup tutorials and beauty favourites to lifestyle vlogs, travel and more personal conversations about womanhood. Kay has been open about her desire to become a mother, which made the news even more meaningful for the people who have followed her journey over the years.

The reveal also came as a genuine surprise. While Kay has continued to create and share content, she managed to keep her pregnancy largely away from the public eye. Her recent social media pictures showed her with a flat stomach, while she also filmed her YouTube beauty content in a way that kept her stomach out of frame. In other words, she really had us fooled.

And that is probably why the announcement hit social media the way it did. One minute it was a regular Tuesday morning, and the next, Kay Yarms was trending because she had revealed that she was expecting her first child.

The reactions have ranged from complete shock to the kind of excitement you would expect from people who have watched someone's journey for years. Some fans admitted that the news was nowhere on their bingo cards, while others immediately pointed out that Kay has spoken about wanting to be a mother before and were simply happy to see her dream becoming a reality.

Even fellow celebrities and friends joined in on the congratulations. Linda Mtoba,  Ayanda Thabethe, Shekinah and Vongai Mapho were among those celebrating the announcement in Kay's comments, with messages about the kind of mother they believe she will be.

Kay, whose real name is Khethokuhle Ngonyama, first built her following through beauty content, particularly her makeup tutorials on Instagram and YouTube. Over the years, her content has expanded into lifestyle, fashion, travel and personal storytelling, turning her from a beauty creator into one of South Africa's most recognisable digital personalities. Her YouTube channel has more than 363,000 subscribers.

She has also continued to build beyond content creation. Kay has worked with major brands, launched beauty ventures and was included in the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 Class of 2023.

For someone whose online presence has always balanced the polished with the personal, it will be interesting to see whether she chooses to bring her audience along for the journey or keep this chapter a little closer to home. Either way, she has already given her followers one very special moment to celebrate.
