Life in the fashion industry – whether you’re a fashion director, stylist or intern – isn’t always as glamorous as you might think! It’s hard work, both mentally and physically, but the one thing it always is is fun!

1 The first thing we do is unpack all the clothing. This is easier said than done when you’re shooting in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a car boot to work out of! And with all the sand, dirt and mud that normally surrounds the area – and believe us when we say there is a lot of mud – our number one priority is to make sure that nothing gets damaged.

2 The next 30 minutes are spent furiously taping the bottom of shoes to protect them from aforementioned mud. First we apply three layers of masking tape followed by an extra-protective layer of duct tape. These have to be cut so they’re not visible in the shots. Basically, it’s like a rushed arts and crafts session. Not very glamorous, but you DON’T want to be the one who has to return a scratched pair of heels to a store manager or designer…

3 Next comes the fun part – the mandatory on-set selfie and Boomerang! Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter play a major role throughout the day, and everyone from the makeup artist to the model gets involved. We just have to be careful not to leak any delicate information about the shoot!

4 We eat a lot of really good food on set. Breakfast is usually fresh croissants, hot coffee and fruit, lunch consists of a selection of yummy salads and great meats, and snacks like chips and chocolate are available throughout the day. And yes, the models definitely do eat too! We’ve literally never seen a model decline lunch.

5 Sometimes we take naps! The day is long and exhausting and eventually we all reach a point where we need to crash for a few minutes. We find the nearest patch of grass (or couch, if we’re in a studio), lie down and close our eyes. Then it’s back to work – this is where the energising chocolate comes in handy!

6 We play loud music all day long. It creates a fun mood and atmosphere and helps keep us awake. Inevitably, we all end up singing and dancing along to our favourite tunes! We might look a bit crazy but hey, we’ve been awake for a long time!

7 At the end of the day, when the sun has gone down and the final shots have been approved, we pack up, drive back and drop off everything at the office. Then it’s pretty much straight home and to bed. We have to brace ourselves for all the packing up and returns we have to do the next day… The least fun part of the job!
