A moment with Motso

We chatted to YFM DJ and stylista, Motso, and got the lowdown on her style secrets!

GLAMOUR: What do you wear when you’re on the air? Does it matter to you to look good even though your audience can’t see you?

Motso: My show is the Weekend Breakfast which means I  have to be up by 5am, so the last thing on my mind is how I look! My on-air look is very laid-back – I guess I’m spoilt by the fact that my listeners can’t really see me! Because I like to feel comfortable, I usually wear tights, a top and a pair of pumps. Unless I have to go somewhere immediately after my show I don’t dress up for it!

What do you wear to feel instantly GLAMOURous?

There is nothing better than a really pretty dress or a top or blouse with a pair of tight pants and heels! My face is also very important to me, so when I do that up too, I feel like a million dollars!

Do you follow trends?

I dabble in trends. If I see some new trend that works for me then I’ll play with it, but I’m not an avid follower of trends. I mix and match and don’t feel left out if there’s a trend that i am not participating in.

Who’s your style inspiration?

That’s a tough question! I’m a simple girl so if I had to aspire to a look, then I would say ladies like Mila Kunis, Noni Gasa and Solange Knowles do it for me.

What fashion and street style blogs do you follow, locally and internationally?

I’m not a huge follower of fashion blogs, but I do enjoy Kanye West’s blog.

This might be a controversial question, but who’s your most stylish colleague at Yfm?

I would have to say my most fashionable colleague at Yfm is Mpho, upstairs in the sales department. I love the way this lady dresses! She has a gorgeous body and knows how to dress it up in the best outfits.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever had about your style?

Um, that I look good? I honestly can’t remember – but I usually get compliments about my earrings!

What’s your favourite piece in your wardrobe?

It has to be the dress I bought for the JNB Met this year. Considering that it was a last minute purchase, I just love it and wish I could wear it again somewhere!

What’s the best value-for-money item you own?

A black dress that I can wear to formal as well as non-formal events. I bought it at a second-hand store in Greenside for only R70, but when you see me in it, you’d never think so!

What advice would you give to girls who want to emulate your style?

Don’t be shy to be yourself! Play with colours and have fun with your clothes!

What advice would you give to the next GLAMOUR Street Stylista?

I think individuality is the best route to take! Being a Street Stylista is about being confident and not allowing the clothes to wear you. Your style should describe your personality!
