Artfit finds new value in what already exists

For Cape Town-based designer Megan, the story behind Artfit began long before she ever thought about starting a fashion label.

Growing up, reusing was simply part of everyday life. Her mom would wash and reuse fabric waste, food was never wasted, and hand-me-downs from family friends were welcomed and worn. These small habits created an early awareness of waste and, more importantly, an appreciation for making the most of what you already have.

It was only later, while studying fashion, that Megan began to understand how deeply those values could influence her work. A course with Cyril Naiker became a turning point, teaching her that design is not only about what you create, but also about how you treat people and the impact of the choices you make.

From this philosophy, Artfit was born

At the heart of Artfit is a simple question: How can we create something exciting and beautiful using what already exists?

The Cape Town-based label transforms forgotten and unused textiles into one-of-a-kind garments. Fabric offcuts, second-hand materials and even household textiles such as curtains and upholstery are given another opportunity through bold silhouettes, texture, colour and playful design.

For Megan, sustainability is less about perfection and more about responsibility: caring for the resources you use, the pieces you own, the people you work with and the work you put into the world.

At the heart of Artfit is a simple question: How can we create something exciting and beautiful using what already exists?

Rather than constantly looking for something new, the brand wants people to recognise the value that is already around them. Materials that may have been forgotten or overlooked can become something completely unexpected when approached with imagination and care.

Artfit’s goal is to create high-quality fashion while encouraging a wider mindset of rethinking, reusing and redesigning.

Whether a garment begins as an offcut, an old curtain or a forgotten piece of fabric, Artfit sees possibility.

Because sometimes something doesn’t need to be new to feel new. It simply needs to be seen differently.
