GLAM Chat: Hendrik Vermeulen

With Fashion Week A/W15 set to kick off this Thursday, we chatted to Hendrik Vermeulen who will be showing his Simply Vermeulen ready-to-wear collection, SMOKE AND MIRRORS’ debut in New York and Milan on 15 February 2015.

GLAMOUR: What do you think are going to be the biggest trends for this upcoming season?

Hendrik: Expect pastel colours, metallic… and lots of prints!

GLAMOUR: What are you looking forward to the most in terms of the upcoming Fashion Weeks?

Hendrik: Certainly the response from the public and fashion professionals; to experience something different, to discover new countries and to meet new people!

GLAMOUR: How do you feel about showing at Fashion Week?

Hendrik: I am very excited, for sure. I don’t think I completely realise what is happening just yet! Currently, I am so focused on the completion of my collection.

GLAMOUR: While trends come and go, what are the 5 key pieces you think every woman should own?

Hendrik: Foremost a style… fashion comes and goes, style remains! Style aside, a pair of black stilettos is mandatory, a nice pair of nude heels to go with almost every day-wear, the famous black cocktail dress (preferably couture, well fitted and possibly with different textures), a statement bag (with semi-precious stones and silver handwork or in exotic leather) and last but not least, silk scarves (they come in variety of colours and length and will give life to any mono colour outfit.)

GLAMOUR: If you’re going to splurge on a designer piece, what should you invest in?

Hendrik: According to your budget, go with something that will give you the confidence to conquer the world! It can be a pair of designer jeans, a luxury bag or a couture masterpiece.

Hendrik is showcasing his ready-to-wear collection, SMOKE AND MIRRORS, on 15 February 2015, 7 PM EST, at Lincoln Centre NY.
