The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa — Cast, first impressions and all the drama so far

The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa has officially landed on Showmax — and if the franchise’s history is anything to go by, viewers are in for chaos, glamour and continent-spanning personality. This follows the runaway success of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: South Africa, which broke platform records post-relaunch for seven-day viewership and secured a spot as one of Showmax’s Top 10 most-streamed titles of 2024.

In this new season, some of Africa’s most memorable Housewives are brought together under one roof. Representing Durban are Annie Mthembu, Angel Ndlela and Jojo Robinson, while Johannesburg sends Christall Kay and Evodia Mogase into the mix. Dr Catherine Masitsa and Zena Nyambu arrive from Nairobi, and Nigeria brings undeniable star power through Princess Jecoco from Abuja and Mariam Timmer from Lagos. It’s a line-up built for drama, alliances, confessionals and unexpected relatability — the kind Housewives viewers live for.

While we wait for episode two to drop, some of the cast shared their unfiltered first impressions of the women they were meeting for the very first time across global franchises.

Annie Mthembu

Princess Jecoco: Pure vibes. Fun, loud in the best way and seasoned with the right amount of spice. She’s a full tequila shot — not a sip.

Mariam: Baby, she can talk. I blinked and she was already seven paragraphs in — but entertaining, so I buckled up.

Dr C: Arrogant.com — sis loves the sound of her own voice. If confidence were a podcast, she’d be all 100 episodes.

Madam: Cool, calm, collected. Grown-woman energy — like nothing surprises her anymore.

Zena: Still buffering… loading 27%.

Christall: Hhmm. Not a typo — that’s a paragraph of “let me observe first.”

Christall Kay

I was excited to meet everyone and have a good time, but when I got there, I sensed jealousy. Mariam and Princess were nasty and ugly to me. I was shocked — I didn’t know them at all.

Dr Catherine Masitsa (Dr C)

Seeing Zena arrive in Rio was pure shock. I nearly passed out — genuinely. With everything we left unresolved after the reunion, I feared an immediate confrontation. I was far from home, surrounded by new people, and mentally not ready to re-enter that intensity.

Jojo Robinson

It was surreal seeing women I’ve watched on TV in person — and they looked exactly the same. Everyone was who I expected them to be. I watched most seasons to prepare, so nothing surprised me.

Mariam Timmer

No strong first impressions — no negativity. I haven’t watched every franchise, only clips. Jojo stood out because we’d met before in South Africa during The Real Housewives of Lagos premiere.

Some ladies seemed cautious around me based on reputation — and that was fine. It created boundaries and respect. But I expected more energy, more challenge. Madam didn’t live up to the hype for me — she floated, inserted herself into drama rather than driving storyline. With how often she mentioned starting the African franchise, I expected more.

As episode one settles and the claws, confessions and champagne bubbles begin to take shape, fans across the continent are already choosing sides, analysing alliances and rewinding moments for a second opinion. If there’s one thing Housewives viewers love more than drama, it’s debriefing the drama in real time. And The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa has delivered enough tension in its opening episode to fuel group chats, voice notes and TikTok commentary for weeks.

Social media wasted no time turning the premiere into a conversation board. From shocked GIFs to messy Twitter threads dissecting first impressions, viewers are already deeply invested in who’s stirring, who’s playing chess and who might be the unexpected fan favourite. TikTok reactions have been rolling in with analysis videos, while X (formerly Twitter) is buzzing with hot takes about the cast dynamic — especially around who brought warmth, who brought shade and who brought main-character energy straight out the gate.
