Ansel Elgort is back on our screens, this time not as the sweetly arrogant teen of previous movies, but as Baby, a talented young getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best at what he does. When he meets the girl of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and escape once and for all. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. The characters in the movie are beautifully cast and their back stories carefully told, with the movie described by critics as a subtly innovative blend of cars, guns, music and old-school cool. What’s more, it’s also one of those increasingly rare finds in modern Hollywood: an undeniably original movie.
