Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre OR Tambo offers a seamless layover, comfort and calm

If you find yourself between flights and craving a moment of calm, the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre OR Tambo offers the kind of pause that feels both effortless and indulgent

Located just 15 minutes from O. R. Tambo International Airport, it’s the ideal stopover, especially if early mornings aren’t your love language or if you’ve just stepped off a long-haul flight and need somewhere inviting to exhale. Even better, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport, which means you can skip the hassle of booking an Uber and simply glide between terminal and hotel with ease.

The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed

From the moment you check in, the warm welcome from staff sets the tone for what becomes a beautifully comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed, striking that delicate balance between functionality and relaxation. There’s a generous work desk for those last-minute emails, a cosy couch for unwinding, and a balcony that invites you to slow down and savour the quiet moments between journeys.

The butter chicken curry paired with gin and lemonade

Room service arrives promptly, with a menu that caters to every appetite, from lighter options to comforting favourites. The butter chicken curry was a standout for me; rich, fragrant and deeply satisfying, it felt like a warm hug from the kitchen. Chef Stanley Jacobs clearly knows his craft. Paired with a refreshing gin and lemonade, the meal set the perfect tone for a relaxing evening.
A long soak in the modern tub followed, and before long I was drifting into a restful night’s sleep.

One of the hotel’s most delightful offerings is the on-site Mangwanani African Spa. After an eight-hour flight the day before, a deep tissue massage felt less like a luxury and more like a necessity. The spa’s tranquil atmosphere, paired with soothing music and skilled therapists, creates a deeply restorative experience.

I had initially hoped to see the chiropractor due to a knee injury, but a deep tissue massage proved to be the perfect substitute; soothing, grounding and exactly what my body needed. I also noticed a hair salon on site, a thoughtful touch for travellers who rarely have time to schedule beauty appointments between flights.

Later, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Chef Stanley Jacobs, who spoke passionately about the hotel’s menu. With guests arriving from across the globe, the culinary approach is intentionally inclusive, offering dishes that feel familiar and comforting while still delivering quality and flavour.
I opted for the spaghetti bolognaise, and it did not disappoint. Rich, hearty and beautifully balanced, it was the kind of meal that reminds you why classics endure. Afterwards, I made my way to the fifth floor for warm snacks and a relaxed evening atmosphere.

For those who like to keep their routines intact while travelling, the hotel’s state-of-the-art gym is a welcome reminder that your fitness goals don’t have to pause just because you’re on the move. And if you have meetings lined up before your next flight then the conference room is perfect for conducting your business affairs.

My stay at the Radisson OR Tambo was nothing short of exceptional. It’s a space designed with travellers in mind, where thoughtful details, comfort and genuine hospitality come together to create an experience that feels both seamless and memorable. The kind of stay that turns a simple layover into a moment worth savouring.
