SA reacts to U.S. Embassy alert on possible terrorist attack on Sandton

Following an alert by the U.S. Embassy regarding a terror threat on SA’s richest square mile, South Africans have taken to Twitter to share their sentiments. President Ramaphosa has also reacted to the alert.

The U.S. Embassy issued an alert on Wednesday about possible terror attacks targeting large gatherings at an unspecified location in Sandton on Saturday, the 29th of October. According to the statement, there is no further information regarding the method or timing of the potential attack.

Amid growing fears, President Ramaphosa has reacted to the warning. Speaking at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, he said that law enforcement agencies are working around the clock to verify and look closely at the message from the U.S. Embassy.

He also criticized the US government for jumping the gun, “It’s unfortunate that the U.S Government issued that type of warning without having had deep-dive type discussions with us,” he said.

These are just some of the mixed reactions on Twitter
