Legend Golf & Safari Resort officially reopened in May 2026 unveiling three distinct, world-class golf experiences set against the breathtaking backdrop of the South African bushveld. From a championship course designed by 18 golf champions and global superstars representing all continents around the globe, to a par-3 tribute journey through golf’s most iconic holes, to the return of the most dramatic tee shot in the history of the sport – Legend is back, bolder and more ambitious than ever before.
The 18 Signatures Golf Course is exactly what its name suggests: a layout bearing the individual mark of 18 Major champions and Tour winners from across the globe. South African designers David Riddle and Douw van der Merwe of DDV Golf Design created the masterplan – conceived from the outset as the longest course in the world, with wide fairways and a canvas broad enough for greatness. Founder Peet Cilliers then partnered with IMG to bring that vision to life, inviting 18 of the game’s finest – among them Justin Rose, Sergio García, Pádraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh and Bernhard Langer – each to design a single hole and leave their personal mark on this extraordinary layout.
Meanwhile the Tribute Course is a love letter to golf’s greatest holes. Imagine playing the 12th at Augusta National, the island green 17th at TPC Sawgrass and the Postage Stamp at Royal Troon – all in the same round. At Legend’s Tribute Course, you can. This 10-hole par-3 course pays homage to the greatest short holes ever designed, faithfully recreating nine of golf’s most revered par-3s and joining them with one original Legend design – the African Redan – for a journey that can be played in approximately two hours. Highlights include two iconic holes from Augusta National’s famed Amen Corner, the terrifying island green of TPC Sawgrass’s 17th that has decided countless Players Championships and the beloved Postage Stamp at Royal Troon – one of the most famous par-3s in links golf.
No hole in golf commands more awe, or more nerves, than the Extreme 19th at Legend Golf & Safari Resort which is globally celebrated as the world’s longest and most dramatic par-3. Accessible only by helicopter, players are flown to the summit of Hanglip Mountain in the Waterberg, where they tee off approximately 400 metres downward toward a 1,600 square metre green shaped like the African continent. The carry is vast, the views are staggering and the pressure is unlike anything in golf.
An exciting digital dimension is also coming to the Extreme 19th experience. Advanced shot-tracking technology – currently in development – will soon capture every moment of the tee shot, from full ball-flight tracking and launch data to post-shot analytics and cinematic footage, delivering a personalised digital package for players to relive and share their moment on the mountain.
“Legend was always more than a golf course – it was a vision of what Africa could offer the world. We set out to create experiences that exist nowhere else on earth, and with this reopening, we are delivering on that promise with even greater ambition. One destination, three unique golfing experiences, with conservation at our very soul,” says Peet Cilliers, founder of Legend Golf & Safari Resort.
Legend Golf & Safari Resort is not merely a golf destination – it combines golf and wildlife in a natural bushveld environment, with conservation at heart. Set on the eastern border of Entabeni Safari Conservancy in the heart of the Limpopo bushveld, the resort offers a golfing experience utterly unique on the African continent, where the fairways are shared with the sights and sounds of the wild, and the Big 5 roam the broader conservancy beyond.
Guests tee off to the distant sounds of impala or zebra, and finish their rounds as the sun dips below the bushveld horizon in a blaze of amber and gold. Conservation forms the very foundation of The Legend philosophy, ensuring every tee shot is taken with the sounds and sights of wild Africa as backdrop.
The resort’s reopening has been driven by passion – and an uncompromising belief that South Africa deserves a golf destination that competes with the finest in the world. From the meticulous restoration of the 18 Signatures Golf Course to the painstaking recreation of nine of golf’s most hallowed par-3s, every detail has been crafted with the global golf traveller in mind. Guests can stay in luxuriously appointed lodges that blend seamlessly into the surrounding bush, dine under an infinite African sky and wake to a soundtrack that no city course can replicate.
“Golf and conservation are not in conflict – at Legend, they are inseparable. Every round played here directly supports the preservation of one of Africa’s great wilderness areas. That is our commitment, and it is what makes this place unlike anywhere else in the golfing world,” explains Cilliers.
With global interest in golf tourism at an all-time high and South Africa firmly on the international travel map, the timing of Legend’s return could not be more apt. The resort is now accepting reservations for tee times across all three courses, with bespoke golf packages available for individuals, corporate groups and international tour operators. Legend Golf & Safari Resort is more than a comeback – it is a statement of intent from one of Africa’s most original golfing minds.
