5 Unique ways to spread the love this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is coming up so take a look at five ways you can show your love to

A gift of love and hope

According to the Western Cape government, there are roughly 4 862 homeless people living in the greater Cape Town area, with an estimate of 700 living in the Central Business District. Reasons for homelessness include unemployment, poverty, domestic violence or abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, and many more.

The Hope Exchange is a non-profit organisation that has been helping the homeless in Cape Town for the last 38 years. They have assisted countless people in getting back on their feet, with services that include social work counselling, ablutions (laundry and shower facilities) and employment opportunities. You can show them the love by purchasing bracelets from Relate by clicking here.

Show some love for schools, communities and organisations that help our planet

The MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet community loyalty programme makes it easy for you to show your love for those who need it the most. When you become a supporter, you can select up to three causes that matter to you, and each time you swipe your card at a participating retailer, a donation is made to your beneficiaries on your behalf — at no cost to you! Giving, made easy. To become a supporter, sign up for free as a MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet cardholder at www.myschool.co.za or download the App.

Love wins

The LGBTQ+ community in South Africa is still largely affected by homophobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination. The Triangle Project is an organisation that works towards challenging discrimination and appreciating sexual, gender and bodily diversity. They work hard to help members of this community who have been negatively affected and offer mental health services, training and consulting, and medical clinic services, to name a few. You can help them further their work by donating on their website.

Puppy love

Our furry friends should not be left behind when considering the month of love. Thousands of animals are left abandoned by owners who can no longer care for them, and the NSPCA is one of many organisations working hard to provide the best care and homes for cats and dogs. You can help them continue the work they do by donating here. If you prefer a more hands-on approach, they do accept volunteers at the branches around the country. Find out more on their website.
