Bernelee Daniell on celebrating you

Ladies, being extraordinary tall is great when you look like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Gisele Bündchen, Alek Wek… oh, there I go revealing my age. I meant when you’re a super-hot, 1,79 m tall, wealthy and super famous model like Kendall Jenner or gorgeous model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, who’s over 1,8m tall or the melanin and honey dripping, Jourdan Dunn.

However, it’s not all cat-walks, getting a clearer view in crowds, the ability to reach items placed high on shelves. There are challenges, such as navigating the dating world of shorter men; sleeves, jeans and dresses not being long enough, shower head issues, and legroom drama on flights. Some of you have even fallen for the lie that you are tall enough and don’t need heels.

Former Miss SA Bernelee Daniell, who is currently on our screens for the second season of the Wedding Crashers on M-Net’s channel 101, shares some thoughts on being a tall sister and a few health and beauty tips.

On being a tall woman…

One big mistake I have been making for years is to hunch over in photographs with people that are shorter than me – if you are doing this, STOP.”

“Celebrate the fact that you can wear jumpsuits and long summer dresses. It looks better on a tall frame.”

“You can never be too tall – heels do incredible things for our posture. Stand tall and proud. So put on those heels, girls.”

Bernelee on beauty…

“I have been blessed with fantastic genes – thanks, mom. However, as I get older, I have realised that a beauty regime need not be time consuming nor expensive”

“Stick to the basics, cleanse, moisturise and sunblock and a little more sunblock”

“Don’t just moisturise your face but apply it right down onto your neck as well”

On health…

“From a health perspective, as a single mom, I just don’t have enough time in my day to exercise(no excuse I know). Luckily with two teenage boys, I can keep fairly active”

Watch what you eat because, in my 40’s, I’ve found that it gets harder to drop those extra kilos’

“Be conscious of what you eat daily but I definitely cheat every now and then, but I try to save those days for special occasions”

“Lastly, we have all heard this before, yet we struggle to stick to it. Drink as much water per day as you can. It really does make the world of difference”
