Essential wellness hacks from the man who trains Victoria's Secret models

The Victoria's Secret Show is fast upon us and the models (including  Gigi HadidWinnie Harlow and  Kendall Jenner), have been busy preparing for the runway - and rather than embark on gruelling juice cleanses, they actually focus on boosting their  wellness regimes. How do we know? Because we asked the man who trains them to share all of the  fitness and wellness mantras they swear by for healthy, athletic bodies. The trainer that every A-lister and model has on speed dial, told GLAMOUR UK how you can incorporate some of the models' wellness rituals into your own life.

1. Sleep more

You've heard it before and you'll hear it again:  sleep is the key. "Sleep is the one thing I ask girls about before they train with us. It's the primary time that the body recovers from exercise and it's also when you'll be rebuilding torn muscle tissues," says Russ. Skip sleep, or get less than adequate amounts, and you'll increase cortisol again - a hormone that suppresses physical activity and fat burning processes in the body. It will also increase hunger. If you can't sleep, Russ suggests checking your magnesium levels, as a deficiency could be to blame. So, on nights where you're staying in, go to bed at 10pm.

2. Food for thought

Russ believes it's far better to say "I will have vegetables with my meal" rather than "I won't have any carbs with any of my meals." He also says you SHOULD plan a cheat meal for yourself at the end of the week (great news!). "The elephant didn't move without a reward," he added. We are so on board with this! Very handily, Russ has just launched a new  supplementLYMA - a clean and effective formula that's the first to incorporate seven patented ingredients, dosed at proven levels, with up to four times greater absorption levels than generic supplements; his supermodel clients swear by it.

3. Have more sex

According to Russ, having plenty of sex will boost your immunity and relieve stress. Who knew? "A female orgasm can more than double a woman's tolerance for pain because it's an analgesic not an anaesthetic, meaning it suppresses pain," he explained. That should have a beneficial effect on your training intensity, then!

4. Mix up your workouts

Russ believes that keeping your  workout exciting will be beneficial for both your body and your brain. SBC training is based around that mantra because, as Russ explains, if your brain is bored, your body will be too.

5. Be around nature as much as possible

Russ believes you should throw away your television and read more. He also advises spending less time on your phone and only answering your emails once a day. "It's procrastinating and you get lost in a strange world based on peer pressure and competitive boasting. Hold eye contact during a conversation," he said.

6. Cut out the ex

"Being around negativity and instability going into 2018 is not a good way to start," said Russ (and we couldn't agree more). "If it ended, it ended for a reason (or 4) and now is the time to focus on YOU. The same goes for unreliable friends who just bring you down. There's a difference between you being socially selective and antisocial."
