From Taboo to Trending: This is how intimate wellness treatments and technologies are revolutionizing women’s health

The field of women’s health and intimate wellness has undergone significant transformation with the advent of new technologies and treatments, and by opening dialogue around these delicate topics and concerns. Here, General Practitioner with a special interest in Aesthetic Medicine, Dr. Cindy Kerbel weighs in.

There are several non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment options for improved intimate wellness that have emerged as often life-changing solutions for concerns that were previously shrouded in mystery, not discussed, or very often ignored. “These treatments include botulinum toxin injections for vaginismus, and regenerative medicine treatments such as the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the O-shot and G-shot, as well as the CO2RE Intima Laser for a more complete approach to vaginal rejuvenation,” enlightens Dr Kerbel.

Further noting that the improvement in quality of life experienced due to intimate wellness solutions have caused a shift in the perception of these treatments, from taboo to trending. Expanding on the impact of these technologies on women’s health and wellness, she says that “women no longer have to ‘suffer in silence’, as there are now a range of treatment options available to treat their most intimate concerns discreetly, yet effectively.”

Affirming that these treatments are aimed at improving some of the physical aspects related to intimate wellness and focus on improved tissue quality and functionality. Considering that wellness is often complex and multifactorial however, she recommends a more holistic approach. “For many patients a multidisciplinary approach to improving intimate wellness will be necessary, such as looking after their social, emotional, and psychological concerns as well. Below, she offers a holistic view of the available treatments.

The O-shot and G-shot (platelet-rich plasma treatments):

– Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, such as the O-shot and G-shot, make use of our body’s own growth factors and regenerative capacity to stimulate and improve the quality of vaginal tissue.

– The O-shot, also known as the orgasm shot, involves injecting PRP directly into the clitoris to treat symptoms such as dryness, diminished libido, difficulty reaching orgasm and decreased sensation.

– The G-shot, or G-spot amplification, focusses on injecting PRP directly into the elusive G-spot. Anatomically the G-spot is an extension of the internal clitoris. The use of PRP in this region also increases sensitivity and lubrication and leads to improved functioning of the vaginal tissues. Other benefits include an improvement in mild stress incontinence as well.

– These treatments harness the regenerative power of PRP to stimulate tissue rejuvenation, thereby improving intimate wellness and enhancing the experience of sexual satisfaction.

Botulinum toxin injections for Vaginismus:

– Vaginismus is a complex condition characterized by involuntary contractions or spasms of the vaginal muscles, that leads to pain and discomfort during penetration and intercourse.

– The pain is often debilitating and can, in some cases, prevent patients from being able to have intercourse altogether.

– By injecting small amounts of botulinum toxin directly into the affected vaginal muscles, one can relax the muscle spasms and alleviate pain, improving sexual experiences.

– This is a non-invasive solution for women who face the significant challenges of vaginismus.

– Whilst the use of botulinum toxin injections can be used to successfully treat vaginismus, they are often used in conjunction with other treatment modalities (such a physiotherapy, dilator therapy and psychological therapy and interventions) as part of a multidisciplinary approach.

The CO2RE Intima Laser:

– The CO2RE Intima Laser is a cutting-edge technology that uses a fractional CO2 laser to deliver CO2 energy into the vaginal tissue to address a range of intimate wellness concerns.

– Through the small channels of intentional microtrauma that the laser creates, and the subsequent desired wound healing response, the laser can stimulate collagen production which can lead to improved vaginal lubrication, laxity and tone, and a decrease in mild urinary stress incontinence.

– This is a non-surgical procedure that has minimal discomfort and downtime, making it a popular choice.

– For optimal results we recommend a series of three treatments, spaced one month apart and in combination with PRP treatments (the O and G-shot).

It is notable that the availability of platelet-rich plasma treatments like the O-shot and G-shot, botulinum toxin injections for vaginismus and the CO2RE Intima Laser has revolutionized women’s health and intimate wellness. “These technologies have transformed the perception of intimate treatments from a taboo subject to a wellness trend,” says Dr Kerbel.

Asserting that it is essential to continue empowering women to be proactive in looking after their intimate health and wellness by promoting education, awareness, and accessibility to these technologies and treatments. “This will ensure that women can make informed decisions and experience optimal intimate wellness,” she concludes.
