How to say no to a date (in the nicest way possible)

Ever been asked out on a date and not wanted to go? It’s tough asking in the first place but it’s equally as tough turning down a date gracefully without hurting the other person‘s feelings. If you’re unsure as to how to go about it, take a look at some of the options available.

Just say no

Really. You don’t have to be rude about it, but saying no to something you don’t want to do is a right that you have, and it’s also the quickest way to let someone know that their feelings aren’t reciprocated.

“I’m just not that into you”

It worked in  Sex and the City  and it can work here too. “Thanks so much for the invitation, but I’m just not into you in that way.” It’s quick, it’s easy and it makes your feelings known with as little sting as possible.

Me, myself and I

If you feel that you need to give an explanation, use ‘I’ statements to explain your way of thinking. “I’m just not looking to date right now” or “You’re great but I’m not feeling a connection between us” both work.

No excuses

Lying might seem like the best option, but if you’re not careful you could find yourself in a sticky situation. Rather be upfront and either say no right off the bat or let them down gently. You’ll have dealt with the situation in a mature way and you won’t run the risk of your lie backfiring.
