Should Makhadzi get involved in politics? Fans aren’t loving the idea

Singer Makhadzi, known for her melodious voice and chart-topping songs, is one of the biggest stars in South Africa at the moment.

Usually trending on Twitter for one of her smash hits, the Limpopo-born celeb found herself in hot-water this week after she shared a picture of herself wearing a dress in ANC colours.

She captioned the image: “Honouring the president's invite.”

According to social media reports, Makhadzi shared the image shortly before performing at an ANC event held in Polokwane.

In the images, Makhadzi can be seen smiling as she dons the green, yellow and blacked striped dress, which she chose to accessorise with a Gucci belt.

As South Africa’s municipal elections continue to draw closer, it is not uncommon for celebrities with star power to get booked by political parties to entertain crowds at their rallies.

The likes of Bonang Matheba, Pearl Thusi, AKA, Shimza, and Arthur Mafokate, have all previously been criticised for publicly admitting their support for the governing party.

Fans of the singer were not fond of her political affiliations and even threatened to cancel the star.

Since the post went up on Sunday 24 October, Makhadzi has lost a number of followers and received major backlash. This prompted her to quickly delete her post but the images were still circulated online.

Here is what some outraged fans had to say:
