Now, the Mayze Stack presents are edgy, funkier version of the signature design, and is the perfect accompaniment to any fashion-lover’s outfit. Musical artist, Money Badoo, is also a fan. Known for her wildly creative street style, the PUMA Mayze Stack is right up her alley.

She chats exclusively to Glamour SA about her creative process, the inspiration behind her music, and why she loves being a PUMA partner.

What sparks your creativity and how do you ensure that the well of inspiration is never dry?

Resting, stimulating myself visually, sonically and doing things that are out of my comfort zone.

Talk us through your musical process - do you tend to start with an idea, a lyric, a melody or a beat?

Definitely an idea, but I usually flow onto a beat that I’m feeling and let my mind go where my heart feels ready. Sometimes I’ll be in the mall and just be singing melodies into my voice recorder, and other times I’ll be in the studio and write the song there and then.

Your blend of singing and rapping is a large part of your artistry - tell us about rapping versus singing in terms of expressing your range of emotions?

At first I saw myself as a rapper but I’ve always loved to sing. The more energy I put into honing the skill and seeing my voice as an instrument, that’s when I realised how in love I am with the different voices. I realised that along with my song writing I could use my voice as a singer and a rapper to tell my story. As a live performer I think it’s something that sets me apart from other artists in my industry for sure.

Porn$tar was a hit! What makes you most proud about putting out the album?

Really being true to myself. I took the time to put this body of work and art together, and poured a part of myself into my music. It is the first time I know the world is hearing Money Badoo, my way. The team that helped me put the album together worked really hard and of course now it’s showing! It’s all working out, so I’m really happy and super proud. PORN$TAR is my winning era for sure!

You have a gift for being able to be relatable through your music. What are the main points you want your audience to take away?

I think just the overall experience of me owning who I am as my power; battling with my own emotions and mental health. I think I’m very metaphorical about the way I write. I’m very much leaving what I say to the imagination and hoping people who resonate find it easy to read between the lines, and enjoy the feeling of my music more than anything.

You’re an activist for women empowerment and upliftment, what advice do you have for other femmes inspired by your drive to chase your dreams?

DALA WHAT YOU MUST! Go ahead and do things your way! There’s no one better to be than yourself. Ultimately, the biggest advice I could give anyone is DON’T STOP even when it gets tough. When it feels like you’re going nowhere slowly, keep doing what you’re doing and strive to be better every time. Consistency is the major key and to have lots of faith. No fear, just faith!

You’re a fashion icon and story-telling is a major part of being an artist, so what does your streetwear and fashion style say about you?

I wear who I am as my superpower. More than anything I am very much as in love with fashion as I’ve always been. I definitely express myself with every outfit, it’s how I show the world who I am without having to say too much.

You’re often spotted incorporating PUMA into your streetwear looks, what attracted you to partner with the brand?

I love PUMA! I can be feminine and masculine at the same time. I love their textures, textiles, use of shapes and especially their collaborations. I definitely also love that I can incorporate my own style with PUMA!

The PUMA Mayze Stack is made for streetstyle lovers who aren’t afraid to take chances and are constantly changing up their style to reflect their mood. How does this fit your personality and what do you love about this versatile sneaker?

I love the Mayze Stack because it can be styled in so many ways. I can wear it with almost anything and it will look good. I also love how the bulky platform gives me extra height!

Your future dreams and any exciting projects in the pipeline?

I would like to go on an international tour but of course start in Africa. I see myself dropping a deluxe to the album and possibly an EP at the end of the year, if all goes well! More music, more art and merchandise for sure!!!

The PUMA Mayze Stack is available at PUMA.com, PUMA Retail stores, Sportscene, Shesha, Side Step and Superbalist for R 1999.
