The Oscars, hollywood's biggest night of the year has finally arrived. For many months we've been following the awards season closely to the penultimate finale of the Oscars. The most anticipated and revered night not only in who the list of winners will be but the red carpet looks that will be critiqued for the next few months.
The anticipation surrounding the event is twofold. Firstly, the list of winners—the crowning of the year's best films, actors, and artisans—is the central draw. Secondly, and perhaps just as scrutinized, are the red carpet looks. The fashion parade on the Oscar red carpet is a global spectacle, where every gown and tuxedo is immediately critiqued, analyzed, and destined to be debated in fashion circles and mainstream media for months to come. A single look can solidify a star's style icon status or spark a viral fashion moment (for better or worse).
Within the competitive fashion scene, speculation runs rampant in the weeks leading up to the event. For many in the fashion press and celebrity styling world, the key question revolved around who would secure a look from the current "fashions darling." This year, the focus was keenly set on the visionary work of Matthieu Blazy for the House of Chanel and the bold, surrealist aesthetic of the storied Haute Couture house Schiaparelli. Landing a star in a key runway look from either of these houses is a major coup for both the celebrity and the brand.
Jonathan Anderson for Dior was heavily critisized for one of his first Haute Couture offerings worn by Alba Rohrwacher at the Venice Film Festival (2025). And with much anticipation I awaited his latest offering. Rose Byrne, the best actress nominee looked flawless in a redesigned ensemble of his Spring Haute Couture show. Unlike the heavily debated Rohrwacher look, Byrne's outfit was a perfect example of classic Dior elegance.
Teyana Taylor and Nicole Kidman were among the standout fashion moments of the evening, both radiating elegance and sophistication in custom Chanel gowns. Their choices perfectly captured the essence of the iconic fashion house while simultaneously offering a unique glimpse into their individual styles and distinct silhouettes.
Teyana's ensemble was a bold yet graceful expression of her dynamic personality. The gown, likely featuring intricate detailing or a unique structural element signature to Chanel, emphasized her powerful presence and modern aesthetic. Her flawless look cemented her status as a contemporary style icon capable of wearing high fashion with innate confidence and edge.
Nicole Kidman, in contrast, brought her characteristic ethereal grace to the carpet. Her Chanel gown, perhaps a more classic silhouette rendered in luxurious, flowing fabric, underscored her timeless beauty and refined taste. The dress was a masterful choice that highlighted her statuesque figure and soft-spoken elegance, proving that classic Hollywood glamour remains an enduring force on the red carpet.
Anne Hathaway, a perennial red carpet darling, made a particularly memorable statement at the event, choosing to wear a breathtaking vintage Valentino gown. One can only speculate that it was in honour of the legendary designer Valentino Garavani, who had recently passed away as the pair shared a special friendship. The dress itself, a classic example of Valentino's signature elegance, garnered immense praise and became one of the night's most talked-about ensembles, perfectly balancing glamour with genuine sentiment.
