When I reflect on the women who have shaped my life, my mother stands first. Her strength, resilience and nurturing spirit have profoundly influenced who I am. Having me at a young age, she face dimmense responsibilities, leaving school early and working nearly 18 years as a domestic worker to provide for my sister and me.Though we weren’t wealthy, her resourcefulness and unwavering love made us rich in support and guidance. She taught me that true strength lies in resilience, selflessness and grace, showing that challenges can be met with dignity and determination. Her sacrifices laid the foundation for our futures and inspired the values I carry today: hard work, compassion and the belief that real wealth comes from love and empowerment. My mother’s legacy is a testament to the power of women who shape lives through an unwavering heart.

Mrs Grobbelaar, My Teacher

My english teacher, Mrs Grobbelaar. Without fail, she would remind me thatI would achieve something great one day. At the time, I struggled to believe it, but deep down, I hoped for it and cherished her words immensely, coming from a teacher I admired and loved so much. Her poise and elegance left a lasting impression on me; she embodied the strength and grace I aspired to. Mrs Grobbelaar taught me invaluable lessons about self-empowerment. She encouraged us to back ourselves and to speak life into our aspirations. Her wisdom extended beyond the classroom; she emphasised the importance of presenting myself in a way that reflected how I wanted to be perceived. Whether it was through my actions, speech or the way I dressed, she instilled in me the belief I could shape my identity. I often think of Mrs Grobbelaar. I realise that everything I have achieved is a testament to her unwavering belief in my potential. Her words resonate with me, reminding me that I have grown into exactly the person she always knew I could be. I am immensely grateful to her.
