5 ways to boost your metabolism and meet your weight-loss goals

Having a slow metabolism can be a very pesky hindrance to losing weight. If you feel as if you’re doing everything right when it comes to maintaining a healthy diet and workout routine, it may come down to a slow metabolism, which unfortunately is due to genetics. However, there are a few things you can do to help speed up your metabolism. Here are some steps you can take in your everyday life to improve it:

Higher-intensity workouts

High-intensity workouts, even for a short period of time, speed up your metabolism and keep your body burning calories even after you’re done working out. Workouts like HIIT (high intensity interval training) speed up your metabolic rate, which helps your body burn fat after exercising.

Drinking tea

Drinking green tea has many health benefits, including its properties that speed up metabolism. Green tea is thought to burn fat stored in the body, and it is low in calories, making it a great caffeinated drink for weight loss.

Resistance training

One common misconception surrounding fat loss is that the best way to lose fat is by doing cardio workouts.

However, resistance training like weight-lifting is a great way to get your metabolism going and shed extra fat.

As you build muscle, your metabolism will increase, which means that your body will keep burning calories even at rest.

Prioritising sleep

When you aren’t getting enough sleep, your body’s hormone levels will get out of balance. This can mess with your metabolism, and may be a big reason why you aren’t losing fat. In order for your body’s hormones to be balanced, you need to make sure you are getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, so that you are not inadvertently slowing down your own metabolism.

Drinking water

This is one of the simplest fat-loss tips, but it is so effective. Increasing water intake works to flush the toxins out of our bodies while also increasing our metabolisms.
