Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng becomes first African black woman to be appointed as Special Rapporteur by UNHRC

GLAMOUR 2019 Women of the year winner Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng is the new United Nations Special Rapporteur appointed by the Human Rights Council. Dr Mofokeng's appointment is definitely a win for South Africa as she is the first black African woman to hold this position. 

"Part of my role is being an advisor to the UN. It will involve country visits in instances where there may be allegations of human rights violations in different member states,' Dr Mofokeng said in an interview with ENCA.

Dr Mofokeng is a health and women's right activist.

The term for Dr Mofokeng's new role is 3 years and can be renewable for another 3.
