This game-changing hair hack helps me wave my hair (even though I suck at waving hair)

It'll make an expert of us all...

I'll level with you. My  hair styling skills are embarrassingly limited. All that sectioning, the co-ordination, the getting tangled in cords? Nope, not for me, thanks.

That is, until a few years ago, when during a discussion in the office about the perils of hair-waving, an old colleague offered up a nugget of wisdom so fantastic and reassuringly simple, it's served me like an absolute champion ever since.

Want to know it? Well lean in, because (whispers) it's as simple as sticking your hair in a ponytail. Then curling from there.

This has more than one benefit. First, a high ponytail is easy peasy to do (it doesn't even have to be neat). Second, splitting your ponytail into around five sections (similar to how you would section a plait) is  much easier than separating your hair into sections when it's down. And third, the first couple of inches of your hair are tied back into the ponytail, which means when you let your hair loose, the waves will start midway down your crown (a much cooler and relaxed way to wear them).

This is how I do it:

How to curl your hair in 2 minutes (even if you suck at curling hair) with GLAMOUR’s Deputy Beauty Editor @elleturneruk ##hairhack ##hairhowto ##howto

These are the steps I follow:

- Tie your hair into a high ponytail.

- Split the ponytail into around four or five sections (less sections means looser waves).

- Grab your curling wand and starting by your hairband, curl the first section of hair away from your face (but stop around 3cm from the bottom, to give the wave a more modern feel).

- You can curl all the sections in the same direction or alternate forward and backward depending on how you like it. (To curl it away, wave the hair over the barrel, to curl it toward your face, wave the hair under the barrel).

- Once you've curled all the sections in your ponytail, let your hair down.

- You might want to finish by curling just the front two sections either side of your parting.

- Done.

The best part is, this whole process takes less than five minutes, requires minimal skills and is practically idiot-proof. A total game-changer, if you suck at hair, like me.
