8 Times Zendaya kicked (serious) ass 🙌

She may only be 21-years-old but Zendaya’s already known as an actress, singer, activist, fashion designer and style star. Read: she’s killing it right now.

This summer she starred in  Spider-Man: Homecoming alongside Tom Holland, and her second album is rumoured to be on its way. Somehow we have a feeling that she’s about to go from big to huge.

Below, we’ve charted our favourite Zendaya moments to date – no doubt there’ll be plenty more to come…

1 When she made an amazing Teen Choice Awards acceptance speech in light of Charlottesville

When Zendaya went up on the stage to accept her surfboard for Choice Movie Actress; she took the opportunity to remind the young audiences who voted for her about their responsibility and their power to effect change. She said: “With all the injustice and the hatred and everything that is happening not only in the world but in our country, I need for you young people to be educated. I need you to listen. I need you to pay attention. I need you to understand that you have a voice and it’s OK

to use it when you see something bad happening. Make sure that you stay educated, and do not let people tell you what you think you should feel. You’re the leaders. You’re the future leaders of the world. You’re future presidents. You’re future senators. You guys are the ones who will make this world better. I’m just letting you know, right now, that you are the future. So take that very seriously.”

2 When she shutdown a magazine for airbrushing

In October 2015, Zendaya called out Hollywood’s issue with “perfecting” women. Posting a side-by-side image of herself – one airbrushed, one not – the then 19-year-old called out  Modelist Magazine for retouching her. She posted the picture on Instagram with a kickass caption.

Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it😍😘 Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue.

Boom.

3 When she made Rihanna sit up and listen

Yep, she’s fast become one of our favourite style icons as well as somebody else’s… Rihanna showered her with praise for her Met Gala 2017 outfit. Goals, right?

We totally understand her reaction…

brown goddess.

4 When she handled Giuliana Rancic’s dreadlocks comment with

During Zendaya’s first major red carpet appearance at the 2015 Oscars, TV presenter Giuliana Rancic made disparaging comments about her chosen hairstyle, dreadlocks. On the US show  Fashion Police, Rancic said of Zendaya’s dreadlocked hair: “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil… or maybe weed.” We’ll just leave Zendaya’s response here:

Just don’t try and come for Zendaya, OK? You will be silenced.

6 When she waxes lyrical on the importance of self-love

Yep, she’s all about it and it’s refreshing. Just read this wisdom:

If there’s any definition to being perfect, you’re perfect at being yourself – there is no such thing as ugly.

When you get to a point where you don’t care anymore about other people’s opinions and you just do what you believe in, that’s a special place to be. Especially when you’re dressing for yourself and you’re creating for yourself — it’s really cool.

It’s important to find out who you are and love who you are – no matter what you’re dealing with, it’s so much harder and more draining and so much more exhausting to be constantly pretending to be something that you’re not.

Openly loving and accepting ourselves allows others to really see us.
