Dee Koala’s star is on rise and she’s fast becoming a household name

Award-winning rapper, Dee Koala’s star is on rise and she’s fast becoming a household name. Here, she chats to us about her exciting partnership with Tommy Jeans for the Music Takes US Further Spring Campaign and shares some inspo.

GLAMOUR: What does it mean to you to be part of a campaign of this magnitude?

DK: I’m honoured to be a part of this global campaign. I agreed to be a part of this campaign because Tommy Jeans enabled me to have creative control over the content I had to shoot and with this campaign being the first of its kind in South Africa, I wanted to be a part of history; One of the 1st South African musicians to have a partnership of this kind with a brand like Tommy Hilfiger.

GLAMOUR: Let’s talk more about the campaign and how it resonates with you and your brand?

DK: The Tommy Jeans SP21 campaign with the theme ‘Music Takes Us Further’ essentially promotes collaboration and authenticity, highlighting that music can be the driving force towards growth and further success. It means a lot to me because my music has taken me to greater heights and my life has advanced because of my talent and music.

GLAMOUR: Please take us through your journey with music and what we can expect from you in the future?

DK: I chose music because it has set me free from depression and bad decisions. I am completely unapologetic in my music. South Africa can expect the unexpected because I am unpredictable and prefer things to happen organically.

GLAMOUR: What advice would you give a young girl aspiring to get into the music industry?

DK: My advice to young girls across the globe is to always stay true to themselves, be proud of who you are, don’t limit yourself and to know that dreams do come true because I am living proof of that; I am a young female musician from one of the most underprivileged townships in Cape Town: Khayelitsha, and I am now a part of the Tommy Jeans SP21 Campaign which is a big deal for my career.
