Over the weekend, newly crowned Miss South Africa, Qhawekazi Mazeleni, returned to her Eastern Cape hometown for an emotional and celebratory homecoming tour, and the response was nothing short of exuberant. Her journey began in the streets of Mthatha, the birthplace of the late former president Nelson Mandela. Arriving in a car, she rolled through familiar neighborhoods, stopping spontaneously to greet cheering locals. Residents gathered along the roadside, and many had the opportunity to speak with her and snap selfies, a touching moment of community pride and connection.
For her appearances, Qhawekazi was styled by House of Nala, a proudly South African fashion house celebrated for blending traditional culture with contemporary luxury. The outfit underscored the beauty of her Xhosa heritage, a meaningful choice for a return to her hometown roots.
Next on her schedule was a visit to Mbashe LG Mall, where she was welcomed with resounding affection. There, she wore a bespoke Xhosa ensemble vibrant with beadwork and embroidered with her name “Qhawe.” Admirers greeted her with bouquets of flowers and presented her with a portrait of her face, a symbol of love and admiration from her community.
As a trained speech therapist deeply committed to child literacy, Qhawekazi’s final stop held special significance. She visited a local primary school, where she distributed gifts to children. The scene, full of smiling faces, shy excitement, and emotional embraces, captured the essence of her mission: uplifting and inspiring the younger generation. The warmth of the moment resonated throughout the community, reflecting both her regal presence and genuine humility.
Her grand finale took place in Buffalo City, where she was serenaded by local musician. Amid music and cheers, the gracious queen, now a national icon embraced well-wishers with heartfelt kindness.
Qhawekazi Mazeleni’s homecoming tour was more than a celebration of her crown; it was a triumphant return that honoured her roots, celebrated her culture, and shared hope for the future.
