NaimaKay’s new single ’uMlilo’ come in time for this year’s Christmas

Award-winning songstress, NaimaKay has done it again as she grabs the spotlight with yet another smashing hit uMlilo.

The song features music heavyweight Kelly Khumalo, who recently showered her fans with a live version of her brilliant 2020 album, “The Voice of Africa”.

The duo worked on the song early this year after Khumalo invited the Port Shepstone born artist for a jamming session.

NaimaKay tells Glamour South Africa that working with Khumalo has been a blessing in disguise because the renowned muso is a good singer, and their voices complement each other, thus making the song “unique and authentic.”

“uMlilo is a love song and was made unexpectedly with Kelly Khumalo. She was visiting Durban when she called me to pull through and visit her because people have been requesting for us to collaborate, then we ended up in the studio with Mondli Ngcobo, and that is when the heat was made.”

The song first made headlines when Kelly teased it on her Instagram page, and as they say, 'the rest is history.'

The song was released last month, and it has received traction on various streaming platforms.

“Yoh, to be quite honest, it has received a huge following because people have been on my case since Kelly Khumalo made a live Instagram video, people went buckle wide and asked me when is this smash hit coming out.

“The recording session was in March earlier this year soo they’ve been on my case like mosquitos lol, so we agreed to drop it on all digital platforms on the 12th of November, and ever since the release of it I’ve been getting good responses,” said NaimaKay.

The eBhomela born artist recalls that performing alongside the legendary Dorothy Masuka and Robbie Malinga are her most memorable music acts since becoming a professional muso over a decade ago.

She then says her dream is to work with Kanye West after the controversial artist released his Grammy nominated album Donda.

NaimaKay adds that west African musician Akon is another singer she would one day love to work with.

In her closing remarks, she says her 4th album is done and will drop midyear in 2022.

“ I have been busy working with other artists such as Prince M ama Dabes who are also under my record label Touch Africa, so yeah, I’ve been working on my album and it's ready, and probably will be dropping it mid-year in 2022. All in all, I have been behind the mic throughout this (COVID-19) pandemic, “she said.
