Bye-bye to these annoying trends!
We look back at the fashion trends we’re determined to enthusiastically wave farewell to. Some were momentary fads, some were bafflingly persistent, but all of them are now firmly filed under “do not resuscitate”. Here are four style trends we’re happily leaving behind in 2025.
Boxer shorts as outerwear:confusion and controversy:
One trend that has left us a bit puzzled— and, admittedly, divided — is the boxer shorts trend. it gained popularity over the summer, with some influencers, fashion press and celebrities (like Hailey Bieber in her checked shorts) celebrating it as the epitome of versatile, comfortable, and even office-appropriate style. Personally, i’m still on the fence. While comfort is important, there’s a fine line between relaxed casual and what might be considered too informal for certain settings. For example, i would hesitate to embrace boxer shorts as office attire, even when styled with a blazer or a sophisticated top. Perhaps the only workplace where this look truly fits is the home office.some interpretations of this trend have aimed to ‘elevate’ the look, such as satin options with lace trim. While these may be intended to offer a more feminine or polished aesthetic, they can sometimes blur the line between loungewear and public attire.some members of the public have embraced the comfort-driven movement and others remain skeptical. For me, this particular styling choice feels best reserved for private settings, but as with all trends, personal style and context should always lead the way.
Labubus accessory frenzy: the charm apocalypse:
The labubu accessories trend has been one of the most talked-about and polarising consumption phenomena in recent years. What began as playful, quirky charms quickly evolved into a global sensation. The excitement around securing the latest “it” bag accessory reached impressive heights, with shoppers worldwide eager to add these unique pieces to their collections.some have celebrated labubu’s whimsical aesthetic and the thrill of collecting. Others have been more reserved, questioning its impact on consumer culture and its bold visual statement on classic handbags. Tiktok amplified the trend, with countless users sharing styling ideas and unboxing videos, which helped shape labubu’s place in the 2025 fashion landscape. The conversation has since quieted, but the impact remains.
Skinny jeans:
The return of skinny jeans — both anticipated and, in some circles, already happening — has sparked plenty of conversation in the fashion world. For years, this skintight silhouette was the default jeans style, but it has since been replaced by more versatile choices, like the wide-leg — which brought a modern, comfortable and widely flattering update to denim.
Pop culture has played a big role in its resurgence — Kendrick Lamar’s iconic super Bowl performance in Celine bootcut jeans, for example, went viral and reportedly caused the brand’s stock to sell out within minutes. Now, major designers like Miu Miu are championing the return of this definitive 2000s style. We know the 2000s is making its comeback, but the choice to bring back this style of jeans is giving us mixed feelings. While i have a soft spot for the bootcut, the dominance of skinny jeans is something i’m keeping an eye out for.
Micro mini skirts:
The Miu Miu micro mini pleated skirt has been a defining piece in the wardrobes of fashion enthusiasts for several seasons, creating a bold and instantly recognisable visual language. Often styled with knee-high stockings and chunky loafers, this look became a signature of the y2K revival. While the ultra-short silhouette sparked plenty of debate — some found it daring and playful, while others questioned the practicality and broader appeal of a look that felt more “schoolgirl” — it undeniably made a significant impact on the fashion scene. Regardless of the reasons behind its popularity, the trend was a commercial success, inspiring a wave of similar styles across high street stores and fast fashion websites. Its viral status was cemented when a-list celebrities wore various iterations on the red carpet and in editorial spreads, sometimes stirring conversation for their controversial choices. Although the micro mini skirt is not a new concept, the Miu Miu version became a true global moment, generating countless memes and social media buzz. As we move into 2026, we’re seeing a shift toward more modest silhouettes that don’t skimp on sexiness or allure. With midi and maxi skirts gaining popularity, i find these longer hemlines to be more flattering for a wider range of body types, and they offer a sense of ease and confidence. ultimately, fashion is about self-expression and it’s exciting to see how trends evolve to reflect both individuality and comfort.
