South Africa’s house music scene is abuzz with excitement as legendary duo Liquideep makes a long-awaited return. The soul and house pair, made up of Thabo ‘Ryzor’ Shokgolo and Jonathan ‘Ziyon’ Hamilton, announced their reunion in a video shared online, where the two were seen side by side for the first time in years. Fans will witness their comeback live at Bloem Fest on 15 November, marking their first performance together in nearly a decade.
Formed in Johannesburg in 2007, Liquideep quickly became one of South Africa’s most celebrated house acts. Their blend of soulful vocals and deep house beats produced timeless hits such as Fairytale, Alone, BBM, and Settle for Less. Their debut album Oscillations (2009) introduced their unique sound, but it was 2010’s Fabrics of the Heart, a multi-platinum project, that solidified their legacy and earned them a coveted SAMA Award.
The duo’s story began when American-born Ziyon, who moved to South Africa in 2004, met Alexandra native Ryzor through a mutual friend. Ziyon, a skilled musician and producer, was eager to learn DJing, while Ryzor, a DJ, wanted to sharpen his production skills. Their collaboration turned into a cultural force that reshaped South African house music.
The reunion not only marks a nostalgic moment but also sparks hope for a revival of the duo’s artistry in a new era. Fans across the country have flooded social media with excitement, celebrating the return of a group whose sound defined an era of deep, soulful house.

Ofentse has taken words out of my mouth. It will be beautiful to shut all naysayers once Liquideep drops. That duo needs no introduction. What do you mean their time has passed? Long as they’re able to create, their target market will always consume their projects.
