Vita Serena: The sisterhood rewriting hormonal wellness for women

Hormonal health is having a long-overdue moment and at the forefront of this shift is Vita Serena, a brand born from both personal experience and professional insight. Founded by sisters  Elisa and Giulia Chella, Vita Serena was created to bridge the gap between science and empathy in women’s wellness.

With a focus on supporting the full hormonal journey—from early shifts in perimenopause through to menopause and beyond—the brand is redefining how women understand and care for their bodies. Here, Giulia Chella speaks to GLAMOUR about the inspiration behind Vita Serena, the importance of education, and why this stage of life deserves a more informed, supported, and empowering narrative.

What inspired you to create Vita Serena?

Vita Serena originated from ongoing conversations between my sisters, co-founder Elisa, Dr Laura Chella (who supports the brand as a consultant), and myself. Our discussion focused on the limited support women often receive regarding hormonal health. So many women move through life stages like perimenopause and menopause feeling confused, dismissed, or unsure of where to turn for guidance.

We recognised a clear gap for a brand that approaches women’s health with both scientific integrity and genuine empathy. Our vision was to create products that support the body through these transitions, while also fostering a community where women feel informed, understood, and supported.

At its core, Vita Serena is about simplifying hormonal wellness and equipping women with the tools to feel balanced, energised, and confident in their bodies again.

Can you share a bit about your personal journey and how it influenced the creation of the brand?

My professional background is in retail and brand building, but personally, I’ve always been surrounded by conversations about health and wellbeing. My sisters and I each bring a different perspective: one works in corporate pharmaceuticals, while the other is a homeopathic practitioner specialising in women’s health, fertility, and menopause.

Through her work especially, we saw firsthand how many women were struggling with hormonal symptoms and not finding solutions that felt either supportive or truly holistic. Those insights became the catalyst for Vita Serena.

We set out to combine medical expertise, high-quality ingredients, and thoughtful product design to create something that genuinely serves women. Building the brand together as sisters has made the journey deeply meaningful—we are united by a shared purpose: to help women feel more supported, informed, and empowered in their health journeys.

The brand is described as “designed by women, for women.” What does that mean in practice?

For us, it means that every product begins with listening, really listening, to women’s lived experiences. While many wellness brands focus on isolated symptoms, we take a more holistic view, looking at how hormones influence sleep, stress, mood, energy, and overall wellbeing.

My sister’s clinical experience, combined with our shared desire to address root causes rather than just surface-level symptoms, informs every formulation. It’s about understanding the full picture and creating solutions that genuinely support it.

Being women ourselves, we recognise the complexity of these transitions and the need for support that fits seamlessly into real life. From how our supplements are formulated to the way we engage with our community, everything is grounded in empathy, education, and practical, everyday support.

What makes Vita Serena different from other menopause-focused wellness brands?

One of our key differentiators is that we support the entire hormonal journey, not just menopause. Many women begin experiencing subtle hormonal shifts in their late thirties and early forties, and we wanted to create solutions that meet them at every stage of that evolution.

Our formulations are carefully developed using a combination of research and practitioner insight, with ingredients selected to work synergistically—supporting hormone balance, sleep quality, stress management, and overall vitality.

Education is equally central to what we do. We believe women deserve clear, empowering information so they can better understand their bodies and make informed decisions about their health.

What also sets us apart is the depth of lived experience behind the brand. As a large, close-knit family, we’ve witnessed how the women before us, our grandmother, mother, and aunts, have navigated these transitions. That perspective has shaped our approach in a deeply personal way. Ultimately, we aim to offer not just products, but a sense of space, understanding, and support, making the journey feel more informed, more supported, and, above all, more gentle.

Who is the typical woman you designed Vita Serena for?

She’s an everyday woman. It's you, it’s me, it’s our sisters and our friends. Vita Serena was created for women who are often balancing multiple roles, whether that’s building a career, raising a family, or simply navigating the physical and emotional shifts that come with hormonal change.

She’s someone who wants to take a more proactive approach to her health. She’s looking for support that feels natural, considered, and aligned with a lifestyle rooted in long-term wellbeing. Ultimately, she values feeling informed, in control, and connected to her body.

For women who may not be familiar with the term, what exactly is perimenopause and when does it typically start?

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, when hormone levels begin to fluctuate and shift. It often starts earlier than many women expect, typically in the late thirties or early forties.

During this time, women may notice subtle but meaningful changes, such as disrupted sleep, mood fluctuations, irregular cycles, increased fatigue, or heightened sensitivity to stress. Because these symptoms can emerge gradually, they’re often not immediately recognised as being hormone-related.

Understanding perimenopause is key. With greater awareness, women can take supportive steps earlier, approaching this stage with more clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of control over their wellbeing.

Many women don’t realise they are entering perimenopause. What are some key signs to look out for?

Some of the early signs can include disrupted sleep, increased anxiety or irritability, irregular menstrual cycles, unexplained fatigue, changes in metabolism, and difficulty concentrating, often described as “brain fog.”

That said, these symptoms can vary significantly from woman to woman, which is why awareness is so important. It’s less about ticking off a checklist of symptoms and more about understanding your own baseline, what feels normal for your body, and noticing when something begins to shift.

When changes feel persistent, unfamiliar, or difficult to explain, it may be worth considering whether they’re linked to hormonal fluctuations. Recognising these patterns early allows women to explore supportive lifestyle adjustments and wellness strategies with greater intention.

Why do you think perimenopause and menopause are still not talked about enough?

For many years, these stages of life simply weren’t part of open conversation. Women were often expected to navigate them quietly, without the language, resources, or support to fully understand what they were experiencing.

Encouragingly, that is beginning to change. More women are speaking openly, sharing their experiences, and advocating for better awareness around hormonal health. These conversations are powerful and they help normalise what women are going through and create a sense of connection rather than isolation.

That said, there is still more to be done. These topics need to be integrated into educational platforms, and there is a continued need for deeper research in this space. We strongly believe that knowledge is power. By equipping younger generations with information earlier on, we can help women feel more prepared, more supported, and more confident as they move through these stages of life.

What advice would you give women who are starting to notice early changes in their bodies?

The first step is to listen to your body and acknowledge the changes you’re experiencing. Hormonal transitions are a natural part of life, and approaching them with curiosity rather than frustration can be incredibly empowering.

Strong lifestyle foundations can make a meaningful difference and prioritising quality sleep, managing stress, nourishing your body with balanced nutrition, and maintaining regular movement all play an important role in supporting overall wellbeing.

Equally important is seeking out trusted guidance and support systems that allow you to navigate this stage with greater clarity and confidence. As women, we often place ourselves last, prioritising the needs of others above our own. This is an opportunity to shift that pattern—starting with small, sustainable changes that, over time, can have a profound impact on how we feel and function.

Beyond the common symptoms, what are some less obvious signs of perimenopause that women often overlook?

In addition to the more widely recognised symptoms, there are several less obvious signs that can easily be overlooked. These may include increased sensitivity to stress, difficulty concentrating, fluctuations in energy levels, and changes in skin or hair health.

Because these shifts often happen gradually, they’re frequently attributed to lifestyle stress or general ageing rather than hormonal changes. However, hormones influence multiple systems in the body, and understanding this can help women better connect the dots.

There are also a number of lesser-known, and sometimes surprising, symptoms. These can include changes in alcohol tolerance, shifts in food sensitivities, memory lapses, such as forgetting names or why you entered a room, joint pain, itchy ears, or even a burning sensation in the mouth.

The range of symptoms is broad, which is why awareness is so important. The more informed women are, the better equipped they are to recognise these changes and respond with the right kind of support.

When should a woman consider seeking medical or professional advice for her symptoms?

If symptoms begin to significantly impact daily life, whether that’s sleep, mood, energy levels, or overall wellbeing, it’s important to seek professional guidance. A qualified healthcare practitioner can help assess what’s happening and recommend supportive strategies tailored to the individual.

It’s also important to recognise that not all symptoms can or should be attributed solely to perimenopause or menopause. Other hormonal and physiological factors may be at play, and a healthcare provider can help rule these out and ensure a more comprehensive approach to care. Having the right support can make this transition feel far less overwhelming.

How can lifestyle changes help manage the transition through perimenopause and menopause?

Lifestyle plays a powerful role in supporting the body through hormonal change. Prioritising restorative sleep, managing stress, and incorporating regular movement can all help the body adapt more effectively to fluctuations.

Exercise, in particular, has a profound impact, not only on weight and muscle tone, but also on long-term health outcomes. For women navigating perimenopause or menopause, a balanced approach to movement can be especially beneficial. This might include strength training a few times a week (starting light and building gradually), incorporating higher-intensity sessions, and balancing these with more restorative practices such as walking or yoga.

Nutrition is equally important. Focusing on nourishing, whole foods can support energy levels and overall wellbeing. Prioritising adequate protein intake, eating a variety of nutrient-dense foods, and reducing excess sugar can all contribute to better balance during this stage.

Ultimately, it’s the small, consistent habits that have the greatest impact over time. The most important step is simply to begin, building a foundation that supports both immediate wellbeing and long-term health.

How did you decide which products to include in the Vita Serena range and what do they offer?

Each product in the Vita Serena range was thoughtfully developed to address the key areas women often struggle with during hormonal transitions, particularly sleep, stress, and emotional balance.

For example, our approach to sleep support is not about creating a sedative or “sleeping pill,” but rather about calming the nervous system. Many women today are constantly switched on—mentally overstimulated, managing stress, and finding it difficult to truly unwind. That often shows up as an inability to fall asleep, or waking in the night with a racing mind.

We looked at the relationship between hormones and the nervous system and chose to focus there. By supporting a calmer, more regulated state, the body is better able to move into deeper, more restorative sleep so you wake feeling genuinely refreshed.

This approach is also deeply personal. I went through a divorce that significantly affected my sleep. I felt dysregulated, mentally exhausted, and unable to switch off. What I needed wasn’t just rest, but... a sense of calm, internal balance, and feeling like myself again. That experience shaped how we think about support: not just symptom relief, but restoring a sense of wellbeing.

Our formulations reflect that same intention. With our multinutrient offering, for example, we prioritised quality and bioavailability, selecting ingredients in forms the body can absorb and use effectively, even when that meant a higher cost. It was important to us that we create products we would genuinely want to take ourselves.

Our menopause range has also been years in the making. It combines traditionally used botanicals with modern formulation techniques, including both topical and ingestible options. This allows women to choose the level of support that feels right for them—whether they prefer something gentle or a more comprehensive approach.

Ultimately, we designed the range so that each product complements the others, allowing women to build a simple, intuitive routine tailored to their individual needs.

Are your products focused more on symptom relief, overall wellness, or both?

Our approach is very much both. While many women initially come to us seeking relief from specific symptoms such as disrupted sleep, stress, or low energy, our broader goal is to support overall wellbeing and long-term hormonal balance.

It’s about addressing immediate concerns while also creating a foundation for sustained health, so women can feel supported not just in the moment, but throughout their entire hormonal journey.

Lastly, if there is one message you want women approaching menopause to remember, what would it be?

Menopause is not the end of vitality or wellbeing but it is simply a new chapter. With the right knowledge, support, and understanding, it can be navigated with strength, confidence, and a renewed sense of self. Rather than something to fear, it’s an opportunity to reconnect with your body, prioritise your health, and move forward feeling informed, empowered, and supported.
