This is how local influencers care for their skin when they’re on the move

Travelling exposes you to a world of new experiences, giving you the chance to meet people and see places that you’ve never discovered before. It uplifts your soul, warms your heart and awakens your mind– but what does it do for your skin? Unfortunately, travelling could harm your skin since you’re likely to become dehydrated, get insufficient sleep and subject your body to fluctuating temperatures. Not to mention that keeping up your beauty routine can be tough when jumping from one flight to the next.

Luckily, some of Mzansi’s influencers have shared their skincare hacks that’ll work wonders for jet-setting GLAMOUR girls. Want to know their secret? It’s Nikel Cosmetics. This radical beauty brand blends their products with only the finest active, natural ingredients, and no unwanted additives. Armed with goodies from Nikel Cosmetics, this is what our local ladies do to look after their skin when they’re on a long-haul journey:

Before the trip

Your skin could do with an extra dose of TLC the night before you jet off, as this will help prepare it to tolerate the rough conditions in-flight. Start off by gently exfoliating your skin to get rid of dead skin cells, so that your skin can enjoy the full benefit of your moisturiser. Next, massage a replenishing mask into your skin for deep moisturisation and nourishment.

No matter which products you plan to use, bear in mind this advice from beauty blogger Siobhan Yeatman, of sugarspiceblog2: “Keep it simple but use good-quality products that will never let you down.”

Once you’ve prepped your skin, don’t forget to pack in a stash of baby wipes, one of Siobhan’s travel essentials. She told us why: “They’re not only gentle on your skin, but have many other uses when travelling.” There you have it, straight from the expert.

During the trip

Once your escapade has begun, aim to conquer the nastiest hurdle that your skin will endure while travelling: dehydration. For a rejuvenating, gorgeously-scented injection of moisture, beauty and travel influencer Nasiphi Ngcwabe swears by Nikel’s Alpine Rose Tonic. This magic potion enhances your skin’s ability to restore itself.

Siobhan agrees that moisturising is key. She adores Nikel’s Cleansing Milk with Immortelle since it softly nurtures the skin, which is crucial when you’re in the unnatural setting of an aeroplane. “It doesn’t strip or irritate my skin, so it’s perfect for the harshness of travelling,” she says.

Another one of her favourites? Nikel’s Nikelhidris Face Cream, a sumptuous moisturiser with a light consistency, making it ideal to use during the day and at night. “I just love the beautiful scent from the orange oil,” she explained. If you’re keen on using an oil, try Nikel’s Evening Primrose Oil, which comes in a convenient travel-sized container and mends the epidermis through hydrating it.

Because your lips are a highly sensitive body part, they need special attention, particularly once you’ve boarded your flight. “I never go on a trip without my Nikel Nikelbalm for my lips,” says Nasiphi. “It’s great also for dry areas on your body, and travelling is when those elbows might need some extra attention.”

Although some airlines may serve you a glass of bubbly, your skin will be much happier if you opt for water instead. Regardless of how brilliant your products are, Siobhan reminds us that H2O is the best medicine to ensure healthy skin. Be sure to drink plenty if your flight is a long one!

PS: Remember to carry only tried-and-tested products when you’re off for your next trip. You don’t want to upset your skin by using products that it’s not used to, in an unforgiving environment.
