4 Things we can learn from Khanyi Mbau

While we’re all so invested in finding out what made Khanyi Mbau walk out on her boyfriend Terrence Kudzai Mushonga while they were in Dubai together, we decided to take a more positive look at things.

After Terrence Kudzai Mushonga took to Instagram to share his side of the story about how Khanyi Mbau “went missing” after he dropped her off at a salon and planned on picking her up later, Mbau has since revealed that she is back on South African soil, and safe.

Mbau captioned her post, “Dear Dad. It gets real up here. Thank you all for your texts, messages and genuine concern. I am home, safe and okay..”

Of course, the whole debacle has Twitter tongues wagging and camps forming as fans speculate around what actually went down between Terrence and Khanyi that pushed her to make her dramatic exit.

While all that goes down, let’s take a look at the reasons why we love South African icon Khanyi Mbau and all the things she has taught Mzansi through her influence.

How to reinvent yourself

Khanyi Mbau has come a long way since her 2004 role as Doobsie on SABC2’s long-running soap opera Muvhango. She has constantly challenged herself and showcased her talents through music and her appearances on tv, radio and in film. Mbau has appeared in shows that include Uzalo and Umlilo, she hosted a radio show on Metro FM called Whose show is it anyway and in 2016 she appeared in her first film called Happiness is a Four-letter Word. In 2020 Mbau and BET released her reality series Mbau Reloaded: Always Rise and the star even has her own gin called I Am Khanyi.

The importance of family

In the past few years, Mbau has become more open about her family and personal life. She has spoken fondly about growing up in Mofolo, Soweto with her mother Lynette Sisi Mbau and her grandmother Gladys. In 2007 Mbau gave birth to her daughter Khanukani and she also has an older sister named Thandeka Mcunu. Social media and television personality Lasizwe Dambuza is Mbau’s half brother on her father’s side, late South African businessman Menzi Mcunu, and by the looks of it they have a really tight bond.

How to travel in style

Take one look at her Instagram profile and you will see that Mbau’s love for luxury cars is obvious. When she is not on a superyacht or hopping out of a private jet, Khanyi is always spotted with a luxurious Mercedes-Benz, Porsche or Lamborghini.

Always look your best

Regardless of what’s going down or what she’s up to, Khanyi Mbau always looks good. As the saying goes, you can have anything you want in life if you dress for it.
