SA's Sports, Art and Culture ministry celebrates Grammy winners with a glitz red carpet affair

The newly appointed Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa on Thursday hosted a gala dinner at the Galleria Conference and Events Venue in Sandton to pay homage to renowned Grammy Award winners.

The minister said the event recognises South African artists who have won a Grammy Award over the years.

These include Miriam Makeba, five-time Grammy Award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo, three-time Grammy Award winner Lebo Morake, and Soweto Gospel Choir.

The 2022/3 Grammy Award winners DJ Black Coffee, Nomcebo Zikode, Wouter Kellerman and Zakhele Madida, popularly known as Zakes Bantwini, were also honoured.

Kodwa and his deputy Noncedo Mafu led the Ministerial Recognition of Excellence Awards, “Celebrating Our Own.”

During a speech at the event, Kodwa said talks with stake holders in the arts and creative space were at an advanced stage as the department was planning on hosting its own awards in order to celebrate the crème de la crème in the country.

He further said those who were awarded last night would each walk away with R250 000 plus another departmental contribution towards their foundations.

It was an all-star event. With stars & Grammy Award Winners alike.
