Zozibini Tunzi just keeps reminding us why she’s that girl. After making her big-screen debut in The Woman King alongside South African powerhouse actress Thuso Mbedu and the legendary EGOT winner Viola Davis, the former Miss Universe is back, this time starring in her first-ever TV series role on Netflix’s upcoming Bad Influencer.
Set to drop on 31 October, In the drama series, Zozi takes on the role of Naomi, a character oozing “mean girl” energy, a sharp contrast to the grace and warmth we’ve come to know from our Miss Universe. It’s a refreshing twist that shows her range and willingness to dive into something bold and unexpected.
Sharing the news on Instagram, she wrote, “The cat’s out the bag! Meet Naomi, on the new series, ‘Bad Influencer’… I’m so proud of my first series role. The show is incredible, the cast is impeccable! You’re gonna love it all.”
Bad Influencer follows BK (Jo-Anne Reyneke), a street-smart single mom hustling to care for her special-needs son. Desperate to make ends meet, she partners with a wannabe luxury influencer, Pinky (Cindy Mahlangu), to sell fake designer bags onlin, a move that quickly catches the attention of both criminals and law enforcement.
The series boasts an impressive local cast including Thapelo Mokoena, Lerato Nxumalo, Masasa Mbangeni, Zikhona Sodlaka, and Relebogile Mabotja, plus cameo appearances from real-life influencers like Mihlali Ndamase, Sarah Langa, and Mohale Motaung.
If the trailer is anything to go by, Bad Influencer is going to be dramatic, stylish, plenty of local flair, and oh-so binge-worthy, with Zozibini Tunzi right at the heart of it all.
