Whether you prefer to plump for a thong or don your 'granny pants' in all their glory, you can wear whichever underwear your heart desires.
If we had it our way, we would all wear whatever the hell we liked (read: Bridget Jones's finest undies) beneath our clothes without batting an eyelid or taking anyone's opinion into account. But since there's so much variety in our liberated world and people aren't afraid to share their verdicts, we decided to delve into the topic.
To mark Victoria's Secret model, Stella Maxwell, as GLAMOUR's November digital cover star, we asked a variety of men for their opinion on lingerie, not because we feel obliged at all to abide by their preferences, but simply because we were intrigued - and it is the biggest lingerie show of all time this week, of course.

James, 35, London
"Alright, so everyone likes a bit of lace, but sometimes I think less is more; a nice little black number can do bits and it's not too OTT. Granny pants don't get the heart racing as such, but who even really cares? I can't say it's something I always take notice of. As long as the bird is comfortable in what she's got on then it's all good! I can't sit there in an old pair of ripped Calvins and have the hump you're not in lacy lingerie, can I? I like matching colours, nothing too 'in your face'; a nice subtle dark red is peng! As I said, black is classy and white is a go-to for everyone."

"I thought I loved solely black underwear but I have actually developed a bit of a penchant for white lately. At the end of the day, I don't really care because it's coming off."

"You might be surprised to hear this but I actually don't have a preference when it comes to lingerie but if there's a massive label in there, it's a total turn-off. Cut them out, ladies! In an ideal world, crotchless pants are the one."

"I'm a believer that you should always wear nice underwear because you never know where the day may take you. For me, it's all about the matching set; you can't go wrong with a nice black number."

"I just actually like a nice simple pair of plain white knickers on a lady. For me, it's all about having a good tan rather than what lingerie they have on."

"Let's face it: in a totally, definitely respectful way, the more bum I can see, the better. The material is irrelevant. There's also something quite arousing about seeing a bird in your boxers."
The conclusion of our harmless perusal? Anything goes! As these men prove, it's all about what makes the woman feel good about themselves, so you do you.
