It’s officially spring, and my beauty routine is ready for an upgrade. After months of reaching for the same winter staples, I always find myself wanting to switch things up when September rolls around. Maybe it’s the warmer afternoons or simply the fact that I can finally start wearing some of the things that have been sitting in my beauty cabinet.
Working in beauty means I’m constantly trying new products, but there are always a few that manage to stick around. I want products that work well together, fit into my day-to-day lifestyle and can handle the very specific experience of South African spring weather, where there are five weathers in one day.
This time of year also makes me want to have a bit more fun with beauty. I’m reaching for lighter, fresher skincare, playing around with colour again and paying more attention to the little details that make a look feel put together. A good blush, fresh nails or an eyeshadow shade I wouldn't normally wear can completely change how I feel about getting ready.
After testing plenty of products over the past few months, these are the beauty staples I’m keeping close this season.
Lelive Hydrating Mist
I’m a big fan of anything that makes my skin feel instantly more refreshed, and the Lelive Hydrating Mist has become one of those products I like having nearby. It’s handy on days when my skin needs a little pick-me-up and is especially refreshing on warmer days.
Lelive Jelly Splash Cleanser
A cleanser is one of those products that has to make an appearance in my routine because I use it every day. I’ve been reaching for the Lelive Jelly Splash Cleanser for its fresh feel, leaving my skin feeling clean without the need to double cleanse.
NARS liquid blush
There are very few makeup products that can change a face quite as quickly as blush. NARS is a current favourite of mine. The formula and pigment make it easy to build the kind of flush I’m after, whether I’m keeping the rest of my makeup simple or going for something more dramatic. Spring is also when I tend to reach for blush a little more generously.
Cotton On press-on nails
I love having my nails done, but I don't always have the time to sit through an appointment. Press-ons are my shortcut. Cotton On has become one of my go-tos when I want my nails to look put together. They’re especially useful when I have an event coming up.
WBeauty sunscreen
Sunscreen is the one step I don't negotiate with, particularly heading into the warmer months. I’ve been reaching for WBeauty sunscreen as an easy everyday option that fits into my routine.
WBeauty Purifying Toner
I don't usually reach for a toner, but when I do, I choose one that will give me what I'm looking for. The WBeauty Purifying Toner has become part of my skincare rotation when I want to give my skin a reset when it feels a bit congested.
NYX eyeshadow palette
Spring is probably the best excuse to have a little more fun with eyeshadow. I’ve been reaching for my NYX palette when I want to move beyond my usual everyday makeup and actually play with colour.
Catrice glow booster
Catrice foundations have been a reliable option in my makeup bag, especially when I want coverage. I like having a foundation I can use for everyday makeup but also build up when I need a little more for an event or a long day.

A good setting spray has become non-negotiable for me. Rimmel’s setting spray is the final step I reach for when I want my makeup to stay put.
