Kylie Jenner went bare-faced for her September Cover of ‘Vogue’

Kylie Jenner just turned 21, and celebrated not only with a fully booked weekend of festivities but also with a  Vogue cover, as you do. Jenner is also a billionaire—earning in two hours what most Americans make in a year—having created a virtual empire from her lip kits, which have blossomed into full-on makeup collections. Makeup has always been a part of the Kardashian look, and Jenner is one of the sisters who leans into it the most: The women in the family tend to wield contoured faces, feathery lashes, and, especially in Jenner’s case, full lips(she’s recently gotten rid of her lip filler, however).

So when the September cover of  Vogue Australia was revealed, it was a big surprise that Jenner’s look wasn’t all strobing and baking and contouring—no judgement, just par for the course with the KarJenners. Instead, Jenner looked…almost makeup-free?

She’s photographed with an artfully wavy lob and a stripped-down version of the look we normally see from her: There might be a bit of blush, faux (or mascaraed) eyelashes, and lipstick (lip gloss, even) going on—we doubt it’s totally, 100-percent free of makeup—but it’s a relative smidgen.

Mother, influencer and almost-billionaire, @kyliejenner stars on our September 2018 cover—her first Vogue cover ever. “I think the way I look at life has changed since becoming a mum. I think more of the future,” Jenner tells her sister @kendalljenner, who interviewed her for the issue, of how her life has changed since welcoming her daughter Stormi Webster in February. “I actually feel like I love myself more after I had Stormi.” Read the full interview between the famous sisters and see every image from inside the issue via the link in the bio. The September issue goes on sale Monday, August 27. Photographed by @jackie_nickerson, styled by @christinecentenera, Vogue Australia, September 2018.

Her makeup artist also ‘grammed about the cover, implying that the look came down to some (incredible) moisturizer: “This is So Major!! @vogueaustralia I would love to Say Makeup by me! but its Really Moisturizer by Ariel😂❤️ i feel beyond blessed to be apart of this moment with you @kyliejenner ❤️#makeupbyariel #kyliejenner”

We’ve seen more and more pared-down looks on magazine-covering celebs lately: Ariana Grande let her freckles show on the July cover of British  Vogue; Christina Aguilera did the same for  Paper earlier this year. These covers are symbolic of seeing these women—all of whom were on the verge of a major change (a new album for Aguilera, a new album plus an engagement for Grande)—in new lights.

Jenner’s life, of course, has been full of milestones lately: Besides the whole billionaire thing, she’s also setting into to being a mom—and wearing hair extensions worth $8,000 for her 21st-birthday look. Whatever’s coming next, it certainly seems like she’s ready for it.
