10 Odd things Meghan Markle won’t be able to do when she joins the royal family

Meghan Markle has already taken her first steps to becoming a royal, and while we sit and wait for the biggest event of the year – the royal wedding, obvs – Meghan learns about a few things she won’t be able to do when she receives the Duchess title. From taking selfies to wearing wedges, these are some odd no-nos amongst the Buckingham Palace residents.

1 Use any of her social media accounts

Meghan has already deactivated all of her social media accounts and from now on our royal-to-be will be joining  Prince WilliamKate Middleton and  Prince Harry on the family’s Kensington Royal account.

2 Sign autographs or take selfies with fans

Even if you’re a  Suits fan – like all of us here at the GLAMOUR HQ – do  not approach Meghan for an autograph. Our Rachel won’t be allowed to sign autographs anymore. This is only a safety measure to avoid the risk of her signature being forged – she’s can only sign royal documents and sometimes visitor books.

Meghan also won’t be allowed to take selfies with fans. On her first official event with Prince Harry, a couple asked for a pic and the actress had to deny it, saying: “We’re not allowed to do selfies.” What a shame!

3 Show PDA with her hubby-to-be

Although we loved those super romantic engagement photos Meghan and Harry will have to keep PDA to a minimum when out on their royal duties. That’s why you’ll never see William and Kate holding hands (a rule that our new royal duo already broke) because as working representatives of the British monarchy and when they step out together, they are just doing their jobs.

4 Vote!

When Meghan marries Harry she will become a UK citizen, but that doesn’t mean she will have the right to vote. The UK parliament claims that it is “unconstitutional” for a monarch to vote.

5 Have bridesmaids her own age

Traditionally, at a royal wedding, the bride’s party includes only children or pre-teenagers. This rule was already broken by the Duchess of Cambridge who had her sister Pippa as her bridesmaid at her wedding to Prince William, and by Queenie herself who had a had a group of bridesmaids who were in their twenties. We really hope Meghan won’t take this rule to heart – who wouldn’t love to see  Serena Williams and  Priyanka Chopra walking her down the aisle?

6 Get a coloured mani

We all know the Queen’s favourite nail polish is a nude, slightly pink-ish shade from Essie, called ‘Ballet Slippers’, but what will be Meghan’s go-to? According to sources for  OK! magazine, royal family members are prohibited from wearing dark and coloured nail varnish, and should stick to neutral and nude colours. But then again, there are so many chic nude shades nowadays, that we don’t think this will be a problem for Meghan.

7 Wear wedges – even in spring/summer

OK, this one is not official, but rumour has it that the Queen despises wedges – so Meghan might have to spring-clean her closet ahead of season. A source told  Vanity Fair: “The Queen isn’t a fan of wedged shoes. She really doesn’t like them and it’s well known among the women in the family.”

8 Cross her legs when she sits

This is very frowned upon for royal family members. As we learned in the  Princess Diaries, a princess puts her legs side-by-side and slightly tilts them – this pose is dubbed “the Duchess Slant”. Got it, Meg?

9 Eat at her own pace…

Apparently there are very strict rules when eating at the same table as the Queen. According to Diane Gottsman, the author of  Modern Etiquette for a Better Life, you can only begin to eat when the Queen has started. Not only that, when the Queen finishes, everyone around her also must stop eating, even if there is still food on their plates. Kay.

10 …Or have her own bedtime

Oh, and if Meghan is staying at the Queen’s house, she can’t go to bed before the Queen – she must stay up until the royal matriarch goes to sleep.

That’s a lot to learn, good luck to our new favourite royal-to-be!
