2014 BAFTA winners

Ant & Dec were the big winners at British Academy Television Awards last night, scooping two awards.

The comedy duo’s ITV series Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway won Best Entertainment Programme and they also took home the Best Entertainment Performance award.

Speaking about their latest victories, Dec told BANG Showbiz: “I’m not sure it means more [because it’s voted by peers]. It’s means something in a different way. People in the industry have realised the effort that goes into the show.”

Asked what award they’d still like to win, Ant joked: “A BRIT Award.”

ITV crime drama Broadchurch was named Best Drama Series, while its star Olivia Colman, who won two awards at last year’s ceremony, picked up the prestigious Leading Actress trophy at the ceremony hosted by Graham Norton at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Meanwhile, the IT Crowd star Richard Ayoade won the Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme and his co-star Katherine Parkinson triumphed in the Best Female Performance in a Comedy Programme category.

Julie Walters, 64, was honoured with the Academy Fellowship award, while former Blind Date host Cilla Black was also presented with a special award for her long career in the entertainment industry, which spans over 50 years.

Collecting her accolade, she said: “I’ve led a charmed life, I really have. I’ve worked with incredible people. I started in television in black and white. I have to say a very big thank you to Graham Norton and Paul [O’Grady] for looking after me. And thank you to the viewers for making me feel so welcome and for loving my shows over the years. This is for you.. ”

Sean Harris was “surprised” to win the Leading Actor gong for his portrayal of Stephen Morton in Channel 4’s drama Southcliffe.

Coronation Street won Best Soap & Continuing Drama, while the ‘Long Lost Family’ was shocked to win the Features BAFTA ahead of last year’s winner The Great British Bake Off.
