Halsey named Yves Saint Laurent Beauté’s newest face — and she does her own makeup

You know her for her collaboration with The Chainsmokers that was never  not  on the radio two summers ago. You know her for her short crop that’s been a variety of platinum and pastel hues. And you know her for being an authentic, outspoken star, both in her music and in everyday life. But did you know Halsey is also a pretty awesome makeup artist? Ya, we didn’t either, but someone at Yves Saint Laurent Beauté certainly did, because tonight the brand just announced an exciting partnership with the singer after she performed at the AmfAR Gala in New York City.

“Recording artist, Halsey, well-known for her music and poetry, will soon be working with YSL Beauté to create makeup looks that speak to the millennial consumer,” the brand states in a press release sent exclusively to  Allure. “While everyone knows about her chart-topping music, her talent as a makeup artist is a secret to many. Not for long as YSL Beauté taps into Haley’s unique vision of beauty and offering her fans makeup tips and tricks. In this partnership, Halsey will showcase her makeup looks to her 6.5M Instagram followers on a monthly basis.”

This is a new type of celebrity beauty collaboration than we’re used to seeing. Normally, the actress or musician stars in an ad campaign, or simply agrees to wear the brand’s products to red carpet events and appearances. But for a star to actually create original makeup looks (and on their own, no less) for the brand and sharing them on their social media accounts is an exciting concept. I’ve always respected Halsey’s hair and makeup choices — she experiments and takes risks — so it will be interesting to see what she comes up with.

Not to mention that YSL Beauté has been ramping up its product selection lately, giving Halsey plenty to experiment and take risks with. There’s the new Tatouage Couture, the brand’s super pigmented, matte liquid lip stain that’s available in 28 shades, as well as the Touche Éclat Glow Shot Highlighter, a liquid luminizer that can be layered to create an intense glow. And YSL Beauty might be one of the only brands on the market to offer a hot pink mascara.

“The partnership kicks-off with her performance at the prestigious AmfAR Gala in NYC on February 7th, continuing with her appearance at the Governor’s Ball in NYC in June,” according to the release. “All along fans will be able to discover Halsey’s ever-changing beauty looks and her love of YSL Makeup” — and watch as the star slowly reveals her hidden talent to the world.
