Taylor Swift scored big at this year’s American Music Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night (24.11.12), beating other top musicians including Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
The pop star managed to take home four awards including the most coveted prize of artist of the year for a third time – the most times an artist has won in the category.
Swift also received awards for favourite female pop/rock artist, female country artist and best country album for her 2012 record Red.
Justin Timberlake was another star who scored big at the evening, taking home awards for favourite male pop/rock artist, male R&B artist and best R&B album for his 2013 record The 20/20 Experience.
The night saw performances from One Direction, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus and plenty of other prizes were given to stars over a variety of categories.
Following an outstanding performance of her song “Diamonds”, Rihanna took home the American Music Awards first-ever “Icon Award”, which was presented to her by her mother, Monica Braithwaite.
But the awards didn’t just stop there. British boy band One Direction swooped in and beat Timberlake and Swift for the best pop/rock album for their 2012 record Take Me Home, and the boys also managed to win the favourite pop/rock group award.
Other award winners included Luke Bryan for favourite male country artist, DJ Avicii as favourite electronic dance music artist and Marc Anthony for favourite Latin artist.
