Salma Hayek’s Christmas secret

Actress Salma Hayek has always been a style chameleon. On the red-carpet, she oozes old-school Hollywood glamour while in the day time she can rock a pair of jeans like no other. But how does her style change in winter?

We talk to the style maven all things Christmas: her winter style, party fashion and her dream Secret Santa gift.

Salma even reveals that she owns a Christmas jumper! Though admittedly it’s less fluffy-reindeer-with-a-light-up-red-nose and more Alexander McQueen chicness. We wouldn’t expect anything less, Salma…

How does your style change over the festive period?

I love winter clothes. I think they’re very elegant, comfy and cosy. I love hats and coats! Everyone has to have a black coat but I also find it very fun to have a colourful winter coat that you can wear with solid colours underneath, like black or brown and then a coat with a touch of colour for the winter.

Does your evening style change?

I love to add colour. I like to do a lot of basic colours like black or beige and then have an accessory that has colour. Like a great scarf. I have this Alexander McQueen scarf from the Damien Hurst collection. When I wear it, even if my other clothes are really simple, it’s just something extra. Or even a colourful hat or a great pair of boots and a bag if it’s colourful. I love to do that during the winter.

Do you own a festive Christmas jumper?

Yes, but mine is very chic. I just got this Alexander McQueen jumper that has a Christmassy star or snowflake on it. It’s black and silver and big. That’s my version of a chic Christmas jumper.

If Santa could bring you one item for Christmas for your wardrobe what would it be?

I would like a computerised closet that helps me choose the clothes, has them all organised, takes care of it and somehow fits it all in a small space. You go “Ok, today I’m this weight, give me options” – because I have to have clothes for the different weights.

What would be your ideal Secret Santa present to make you laugh?

For Secret Santa I’d like a see-through beer mug with some sort of crazy drunken Santa on it.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I think the fun thing about fashion is that it’s a place where you can exercise your own creativity and you can make a reinvention of yourself every day. I think the bad part of fashion is when instead of being an exploration of your own identity, you try to copy everyone else then it’s not healthy. It’s not satisfying.

Besides spilling her Christmas style secrets, Salma is also one of the celebrity ambassadors for the Kering Foundation’s White Ribbon Campaign. She explains why the campaign is so important to her in the video below:
