Tyla’s arrival in India for the very first time has become a fashion moment the world can’t stop talking about. The South African superstar, a Grammy Award, winning force who never shies away from cool, unexpected style, chose to honour Indian heritage in the most elegant way: by stepping into her first-ever saree, complete with a traditional bindi.
And in true Tyla fashion, she didn’t just wear it, she embraced it with warmth, curiosity, and a joy that lit up the room.
The artistry behind the look comes from none other than self-taught designer Nancy Tyagi, a creator whose rise has been shaped by relentless passion, nights of hand-stitching, and an unwavering commitment to craft. For Nancy, this collaboration was deeply emotional, a merging of cultures, stories, and creative energies.
Inspired by Tyla’s fearless yet playful spirit, Nancy designed a handcrafted saree rooted in Indian tradition but elevated with the fresh, modern edge that Tyla embodies so naturally. Thoughtful draping, expressive textures, and hours of meticulous handwork came together to create a piece that feels both timeless and unmistakably contemporary, a perfect match for Tyla’s magnetic presence.
Speaking about the experience, Nancy shared, “Designing for Tyla meant a great deal to me because her style carries such a fearless, playful spark that instantly inspires creativity,” she said. “While working on the design, I kept thinking about how effortlessly she blends boldness with elegance, and I wanted the look to reflect that balance,” she continued.
“Every detail from the silhouette to the textures and overall structure was thoughtfully chosen to complement her dynamic presence,” she added. “At the same time, it was important for me to ensure the outfit carried my signature touch, something that feels handmade, expressive, and rooted in my design language,” she explained.
“Creating this piece for Tyla was both exciting and meaningful, and I hope the final look celebrates her personality as much as it represents my designs,” she concluded.
What makes this moment even more special is the sincerity behind it. Tyla’s willingness to try a saree for the first time, and wear it with such ease and grace, felt like a true celebration of Indian culture. It’s a reminder of how fashion transcends borders: it connects, it sparks conversation, and it brings people together across continents.
