Hosted at Ce La Vi in Johannesburg, Ama Qamata’s GLAMOUR digital cover celebration was a beautifully curated soirée that saw the city’s tastemakers, influencers and media personalities come together for an afternoon of great company, good food and music
The weather set the tone for an unforgettable day in Johannesburg, ensuring guests enjoyed every moment. The intimate setting created the perfect atmosphere for mingling, laying the foundation for a celebratory afternoon. Guests embraced the ‘shades of pink’ theme, adding a soft, romantic layer to the occasion.
MC, Abigail Visagie welcomed guests into the beautiful space, and just moments later, the guest of honour, Sub-Saharan Africa Ambassador for L'Oréal Paris and GLAMOUR’s Celebration Issue cover star, Ama Qamata joined the festivities ahead of her digital cover reveal. Donning a striking black-and-white ensemble by Thebe Magugu, she effortlessly stole the show. Her infectious energy filled the room as she greeted guests and made her way to her table, where her mother beamed with pride as they embraced.
GLAMOUR’s Editor-in-Chief, Nontando Mposo, joined Abigail on stage to honour the momentous occasion before welcoming Ama to share a few words.
“I’m feeling humbled and grateful. When I started out in the industry as an actress, I was very clear in the kind of impact I wanted to have, the kind of woman I wanted to be, and how I wanted to impact other young women. It was always about representing Africa on the global stage, it was always about African women being seen. I think for a very long time, the beauty narrative was always shaped by western standards, and to see L’oréal taking the stance to celebrate African beauty is really incredible, and the fact that I get to be the face of it, wow! It can only be God.”
Ama also shared a heartfelt moment with her mother, reflecting on how far she has come. She also took a moment to acknowledge, renowned stylist, Thobeka Mbane for putting her cover look together.
Ama's mom offered touching words of gratitude in celebration of her daughter, “She knows that when I was raising her, I taught her humbleness, respect, and gratitude will take her far. Those are the principles my mom imparted when she left me at 18. She never left me with any wealth, no money but she gave me those principles in life, and they’ve never let me down. On behalf of every woman here in South Africa, and around Africa, no one can tell you your limits.”
With those affirming words still resonating in the room, the digital cover was revealed — Ama radiant against a striking blue backdrop. Guests gathered to capture special moments with her before indulging in their mains and dessert. Each attendee left with thoughtfully curated goodie bags featuring the GLAMOUR Celebration Issue, the L’Oréal brightening serum, mascara and blush.
It was, without a doubt, a day to remember.
